On the whole, 12th Fail is an excellent film made from the heart and which touches the heart. It deserves to succeed. Having said that, it must be added that lack of promotion and, therefore, awareness about the films release, will come in the way of realisation of its potential at the box-office.

12th Fail also has a unique way of using music to take its story forward. The background score adds an emotional value to the visuals in a way which is organic. There are times when you hear restart in BG and it only makes you want to hum along. Thats the impact. You will see yourself rooting for Manoj, for the underdogs!12th Fail is a must-watch!

No spoilers here, because the plot is based on the real-life story of Mohan Kumar Sharma, a best-selling book written by Ashok Pathak. In terms of distance, Mohans journey from the wilds of the Chambal to the Capitals UPSC building, may not have been too long. But in every other respect, these two places could be on different planets: just the thought of a Hindi medium young man from such a humble background, who attends a school where the teachers help their wards to pass exams, makes you blink in disbelief. Just how did the lad, with so little money and zero worldly knowledge, pull it off?

’12th Fail’ is top-class and a must-watch that will leave you impressed and inspired through almost every scene of its 147 minutes. Full marks to Chopra for ensuring he gets the best out of every character in the movie.

At a time when it is routine for Bollywood to make a completely hash of films inspired by true stories and real-life achievers, 12th Fail is a gentle little film that stays true to its purpose and strikes out hard in all the right directions

Once known for his distinctive style of storytelling and weaving intricate and complex narratives laced with socially relevant themes, Chopra doesnt quite live up to expectations with 12th Fail. Much like his last directorial Shikara, this film too misses the mark and fizzles out. Sometimes, its not enough to just tell a tale. Times have changed and the need for nuance and edge has become paramount. To cut to the chase, its simplistic approach and treatment stops 12th Fail from soaring. But just like Manojs unwavering hope and resolve to achieve his dreams, heres also hoping for the old Chopra who had redefined Hindi cinema to be back without much ado!

12th Fail ticks all the boxes of the underdog-to-victor story and still gives it heart-wrenching emotional force. If Massey does not win a National Award for this film, it will be unjust to an actor who has given a performance of such unalloyed brilliance.

Vidhu knows how to bring out the character and how much each string must be pulled to exactly the right demeanor €” no more, no less. Too loose and you see the characters getting overboard. Too tight, and they can come across as unrelatable. The director has tuned his actors so brilliantly. You just cant forget any one of them. 12th Fail is a mark of good art. Its beginning, end and every binding scene in between is incredible. Blink; and youll miss the subtlest of indicators of what Manoj must to do to keep himself afloat.
