In AINSLEY MCGREGOR MYSTERIES: A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER, Ainsley, a former criminologist played by Candace Cameron Bure, returns to her small town in Sweet River, Texas, where she makes a big career change but can’t deny her passion for solving crimes when she finds the body of a murdered man in a wine cellar. A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER is a well-produced, enjoyable mystery with high-quality performances and a strong moral worldview with Christian, redemptive values.

Ainsley turns in her badge and credentials to open Bless Your Arts, a business where artists can sell their work. Despite the career change, Ainsley can’t deny her passion for solving crimes. So, when a murder occurs in her town, she jumps into action to solve the crime.

A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER opens with Ainsley and her best friend, Shannon Caldwell (Caitlin Stryker), sharing a lunch. As they leave their lunch, they come across an open door leading to a wine cellar. They walk through the door to ensure nothing’s out of place. Ainsley sees a man lying face down on the floor. Ainsley runs over to the body and checks the man’s pulse, then announces, “He’s dead.”

The movie cuts to one day before the murder, when Ainsley arrives for the grand opening of her new business, Bless Your Arts. Ainsley has decided to leave her life as a criminologist and pursue a new passion for helping artisans share their art with the town of Sweet River, Texas. Suddenly, one of Ainsley’s friends, Michael, is approached by an angry businessman, Rick Dean, from Houston, who’s trying to buy Michael and Shannon’s winery.

Ainsley heads to Shannon and Michael’s coffee shop to pick up lunch for her on the first day of the grand opening. While at the shop, Ainsley spots a mysterious woman, unsure who she is. She asks her friend, Shannon, about the man trying to buy their winery. Shannon and Michael tell Ainsley it’s no big deal. However, Ainsley’s criminology skills come into play. She knows something is wrong.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Ainsley goes to the Colby County Sheriff’s Department to see her brother, Ryan, the sheriff. While at the station, Ainsley runs into Jake, a potential lover who asks Ainsley out on a date to dinner. Jake and Ainsley are giddy and overjoyed throughout the awkward exchange for their upcoming date. Once Ainsley reaches Ryan’s office, she tells him of the debacle between Michael and the angry businessman, Rick Dean. She also informs Ryan of the strange woman in the coffee shop.

The movie suddenly cuts back to the present day when Ainsley and Shannon find the murder victim. As it turns out, the man murdered is Rick Dean. When Michael sees the commotion, Ainsley asks Michael why he changed his clothes. Michael says it’s because he spilled wine on his clothes while topping some wine barrels. Ainsley’s question finally clicks in Michael’s head, and he knows he just became the number one murder suspect in the investigation.

Ainsley jumps back into her role as a criminologist, but Ryan tells Ainsley to stay out of the investigation. However, Ainsley sticks her nose in her brother’s investigation anyway.

Ainsley does all she can to find the real killer. Ainsley arrives at the hospital, where she finds Rick Dean’s wife and daughter. Ainsley notices the two are arguing about something but she’s not sure what. Ainsley also sees a hole in the wife’s glove, which gives Ainsley a suspicion that she might be involved somehow with her husband’s murder.

Throughout the rest of the movie, Ainsley picks up clue after clue to solve Rick Dean’s murder of Rick Dean and get her friends, Michael and Shannon, out of trouble. While on her date with Jake, Ainsley runs into Mrs. Dean and approaches her. Mrs. Dean becomes very agitated and storms out of the restaurant. When Ainsley gets home, she finds a note on her door warning, “Stay out of this, or you’re next.”
