There aren’t any path-breaking surprises in Aquamans storytelling, but the presentation is refreshing. The CGI work is top notch, especially during some of the fantastic underwater set pieces. James Wan pays a lot of attention to the stunt choreography and how the action is interpreted through slick camera work including some impressive long-take sequences. This keeps the momentum flowing, even as the run-time feels a little bloated especially when the plot runs into choppy waters in the second act. At this point, the film stumbles over itself as it takes on a tone that’s too on-the-nose for its own good. That, combined with the insane action, make for convincing reasons to watch Aquaman. Go on, dive in.

Quietly, without drawing much attention to itself, Aquaman makes long strides for diversity in cinema – both in the way that it is cast and through the story it tells. Like Momoa, who himself is a child of two worlds – his father is of Hawaiian descent while his mother is of European ancestry – Aquaman represents oneness. Its about acceptance and inclusivity, about shunning differences and learning to embrace those who arent like us. It washes up on the shores of the same sort of annoying CGI slugfest that these DC movies routinely default to, but it deserves to be seen big and loud.

Its basically the same superhero tale being told over and over again but its Wans splendid vision of a world underwater that makes Aquaman one hell of a ride. Their work offers some breathtaking visuals in the film. However, there are definitely some visible flaws in the film. The second half is a bit stretched and could have been easily cut short. There are also several puns which not just only make the film overwhelmingly unfunny but repetitive as well. Having said that, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will definitely make you laugh, warm your heart, and ultimately fill you with hope.

It was inevitable. After brief appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), DC Comics amphibious superhero finally gets his own film. Sadly, its a crazy amalgam of subpar storytelling, non-stop action and constantly swirling camera work. Motion sickness ahoy!

All said and done, Aquaman one of the best *solo* superhero movies to come out of Hollywood. Im yet to see Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse but Aquaman definitely topples Black Panther for me. A chance for DCEU to redeem its lost glory and rise up strong with upcoming projects. Its a grand and entertaining underwater delight!
