I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Bahubali given that I watched a Hindi dubbed version of the original Telugu film. Rajamouli is indeed a visual storyteller, and he brings the curtains down on this first part of his two-film saga with a curious cliffhanger. I cant wait for Part 2, which comes next year.Im going with four out of five for Bahubali. Its exactly what a blockbuster should be. Hugely entertaining, without ever being dumb.

No storyteller comes close to what SS Rajamouli envisions and executes on screen. #Baahubali is truly a M-A-S-T-E-R-P-I-E-C-E.Every frame, every sequence of #Baahubali is a marvel. Can easily be compared to the best of Hollywood. The casting is terrific. Ramya Krishnan in her short but substantial role is flawless as the feisty Raajmata. Tamannaah does the action bit well. Prabhas and Rana Daggubati are outstanding. They hugely contribute to making this routine good vs bad film a visual extravaganza…entertainment guaranteed. The scene which sees Shiva singlehandedly erecting a giant gold statue of Bhallala Deva is jawdroppingly iconic. Take a bow S.S. Rajamouli.

I saw the film much after its release, and was impressed by the re-creation of the past ( the present, full of silly banter between a standard-procedure hero-heroine, was same-old). And then came Eega, a terrific, fun-filled tale of a vengeful fly. With Baahubali, Rajamouli has combined his gifts, of staying firmly in the past, and filling it with heightened drama and colour-drenched visuals. I cant wait for the second part, which, we are told, will be out in 2016. Cast: Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah, Ramya, Anushka Shetty, Nasser, Sathyaraj, Sudeep

Scale of ambition: gargantuan. Quality of VFX: out of the ordinary. Content: only occasionally gripping. Final impact: pretty strong. That, in a nutshell, is SS Rajamoulis Telugu and Tamil fantasy epic Baahubali The Beginning, The spectacular universe that the film conjures up is filled with magic, but the larger-than-life characters that populate its extraordinary expanse do not belong to any known mythic landscape. To that extent, Baahubali, driven by the titular superhero who pulls off mind-boggling feats both in love and in war, throws up many a surprise that isnt altogether meaningless.

Be warned. While watching ‘Baahubali’, you might have to periodically pick up your jaw off the floor. Because this is not merely a movie, it is an unbelievably thrilling fantasy ride.It is to the director’s credit that every aspect of the film — action, mind-boggling set design and choreography — lives up to this epic film of gigantic scale. The choreography in the song that has Shiva disrobing Avantika to get her in touch with her feminine side, is an absolute gem.Don’t miss it.

Bahubali-The Beginning isnt quite finished; though it concludes on a delightfully stupefying note. The rest of the epic fantasy is scheduled for release sometime in 2016. Films that end on a cliffhanger note are usually frustrating. Bahubali isn’t.The first part of the epic leaves behind dollops of rip-roaring entertainment to relish till its back to finish what it started in perhaps even more jaw-dropping manner. Rajamouli incites such confidence.

On the whole, despite having a first half that is rather slow, and a ballistic second half, a film like BAHUBALI makes you proud that an Indian filmmaker dared to dream big and accomplished it. BAHUBALI is definitely not to be missed. Call it a box-office blockbuster today, but tomorrow, it will be remembered as a classic.

From the first frame itself, my eyes were glued to the screen as I could see why Baahubali is the most extravagant film of India. From covering wide expanses of waterfalls, forests and mountains to erecting a whole city with a mix of real locations and computer effects, Baahubali takes you on a visual retreat that will linger for days.

As might be evident, the first half of Bahubali isn’t exactly riveting. It teeters between funny, spectacular and tragic, depending upon how keen-eyed the viewer is and how much acting is required of the cast. The CGI landscape, like the waterfalls and the rather magnificent Mahishmati, are spectacular. There are a few laughable spots, but they are few and far between. It’s post-intermission that Bahubali really comes into its own.The biggest surprise, however, lies in the film’s final shot, which gives you a glimpse into the sequel that will come out next year. And it’s good enough to make you wish 2016 was here already.
