BuntyAurBabli2: DISAPPOINTING. Interesting ideas don’t necessarily translate into interesting films… An absolute waste of such fine talent and opportunity!

On the whole, Bunty Aur Babli 2 is not a worthy successor to the original and will not be able to entertain the audience enough for the box-office returns to be substantial. It is another thing that the producers may have already recovered their cost from non-theatrical revenues.

But the real downer is that the film wastes its younger pair . But their characters are even flatter. Few of the jokes land and the ease of pulling off their cons becomes, beyond a point, plain silly. But swag can never replace script.

The two actors show crackling chemistry despite playing a middle-aged couple dealing with regular domestic issues. Saif is quite adorable as the goofy and obedient Rakesh Trivedi while Ranis comic timing is a saving grace even when she is saddled with a stereotypical loud character and very few genuinely funny lines or scenes.Pankaj Tripathis act of infusing humour in a rural accent is nice but we have seen it way too many times to find any novelty in it.All in all, Bunty aur Babli 2 had an exciting premise to revive the two iconic characters, but this sequel feels like quite a con-job in comparison with its original.

the film comes alive in parts. Especially between Saif and Rani, who are trying to kindle the old Bunty-Babli spark; between the two Buntys and Bablis as they try to outsmart each other; and between the lines when it surprisingly veers into political territory. Whether its the charade of clean Ganga, the game of renaming cities like Allahabad to Prayagraj, and the state of our system. An STF arriving late to the crime scene on bicycles and a bullock cart €” well, we cant say it is impossible.

Rajat Poddat’s production design is decent. Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s costumes for Rani Mukerji are tacky and doesn’t contribute to the humour. It also looks a bit cheap at some places. Leepakshi Ellawadi’s costumes for the rest are fine. Parvez Sheikh’s action is fine. Aarif Sheikh’s editing could have been slicker in the second half.
On the whole, BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 is a poor show all the way. At the box office, the overall collections would be impacted due to the negative word of mouth. Disappointing

Banish the hope forthwith: the free-flowing abandon of Bunty Aur Babli is nowhere in sight in its sequel. Bunty Aur Babli is a laboured, overly frothy attempt to build upon the notion that the 2005 film stood on: two young people too ambitious for the small towns they belong to turn into robber-rebels who use their innate wiles to trick the greedy into parting with their wealth.

To sum up, Bunty Aur Babli 2 had all the right ingredients to serve a perfect dish, but too much mixing left it with no great after taste. Such fine actors look wasted in a half-hearted script. Watch it only for Rani Mukerji if you must.

Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari are game for the latest game, but dont have much to give beyond millennial cool. At least Sharvari makes a bigger impact than her co-star. Saif Ali Khan hams dutifully, Pankaj Tripathi is twinkly-eyed as always, and thus the 138-minute movie rolls on towards its inevitable next con: the franchise.

For now, Bunty Aur Babli 2 is extremely entertaining, gleefully amusing and a well-made sequel to a loved film. Hope the second half also lives up to expectations.
