DAAWAT-E-ISHQ HINDI MOVIE REVIEW

Ratings:2/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site:CNN IBN

Daawat-e-Ishq coasts along comfortably until intermission, then comes undone when multiple twists in the second half require complete sacrifice of logic. The humor dries up fast, and even at a running time of 2 hours, the film feels overlong. I’m going with 2 out of 5. What started off promisingly is never fully exploited. Shame.

Habib Faisal’s offering is definitely fresher than a packaged, frozen meal; but when he’s not paying attention the story boils over and the flavour escapes quickly. The second half crumbles (guess some recipes got nixed here) and the climax is far from slurp-worthy.This one won’t fill your hungry hearts, but one serving (not too bland, not too spicy) isn’t too bad for your appetite.

Daawat-E-Ishq is a breezy exercise aiming to bring forth the evils of dowry — responsible for the despair of countless woman in the country even after being declared as a criminal offence since 1961 — without going the harsh or soppy route. Daawat-E-Ishq makes up for many of its cinematic imperfections and half-baked explorations with infectious charm, platefuls of it.Implausible but take it with a pinch of salt.

DAAWAT-E-ISHQ, which has been directed and written by Habib Faisal fails to live upto the standards of a YRF film. This film, despite dealing with a sensitive issue and a strong social message, loses its track gradually as the film progress. While the film has a comparatively engaging first half, it stumbles in the dragging second half. Plus, the slow pace of the film doubles up as a villain in the film’s progress. On the whole, the plot of DAAWAT-E-ISHQ does have a good social message relevant to today’s times, however, wrong marketing and slow pace of the film leaves the audience a bit disappointed.

Daawat-e-Ishq is a smorgasbord of conflicting genres that do not mix particularly well. The film kicks off in the manner of a social drama, turns into a mild crime caper, then takes on the dimensions of a culture clash comedy, and finally winds up like a love story with a happy ending. It might not be the grand feast that it promises to be, but some its flavours are alluring enough for the film to be a reasonably appetizing one-time watch.

Daawat-e-Ishq is so annoyingly bland that you wonder who cooked this one up, and for whom? As Gullus straight-laced but loving father, Anupam Kher gives the film its only moments of honesty. The rest is an unpalatable snoozefest. One and a half stars.

Filmmaker Habib Faisal managed to get all the right ingredients in Daawat E Ishq. Casting tops that list. Parineeti Chopra, Aditya Roy Kapoor along with Anupam Kher ensure you are glued to the screen and entertained as well. Daawat-e-Ishq may not be a perfect film but it’s an adorable love story and the two young actors make it paisa vasool. Go for it because the taste is just right!

Daawat-e-Ishq is a disappointing recipe of love. Quite like its story, the film thugs you into believing its all about lofty, delicious, gourmet cinema. Sadly its none of those and not even close. It is an excruciating bore lacking the fundamental thrill factor. Predictable and mediocre, Daawat-E-Ishq is the not a film Aditya, Parineeti and mostly Habib Faisal can pass for posterity.

The plot of the film is as half-baked and unconvincing as its treatment. Long queues of suitors at a hotel in Lucknow, the unabashed demands of greedy families, the whole camera set up for a sting operation and the fact that ladka-ladki should spend three days together to know each other and give the viewers a free hop-on hop-off Lucknow darshan in Tariqs red Impala look too forced and feeble.
