Dhadak is ultimately a homogenous Karan Johar production that offers comfort in the familiar€¦for those seeking it. For the rest of us, its just baffling why the folks involved would choose to remake a film about the horrors of caste supremacy, but erase practically every mention of caste from the film.Im going with two-and-a-half out of five. The kids make it worth your time.

Shashank Khaitan adapts #Sairat wonderfully well… Retains the essence, but gives #Dhadak a different texture… Romance is fresh, pure and energetic… Tense moments keep you on tenterhooks… Culmination leaves you shocked, stunned and speechless… Dhadak dips in the post-interval portions, has a few rough edges too, but the shocking finale makes you forget the hiccups.

I think the way to enjoy Dhadak is to completely forget about Sairat. But those of us whove seen Sairat know that this is impossible.Shashank is the successful maker of frothy romances. Here he steps out of his comfort zone but not enough to tackle head-on, the ugly truth of caste. The hurdles are more palatable and consequently, synthetic. I had described his second film Badrinath Ki Dulhania as a dose of feminism-lite. Well, think of Dhadak as Sairat-lite.

The story is adapted from Sairaat and is about the obstacles that come in the way of the two young lovers. Nagraj Manjules story does not offer much novelty as it is about a girl and a boy from different classes and castes. Shashank Khaitans screenplay is engaging and interesting. On the whole, Dhadak is a good entertainer and will emerge victorious at the ticket windows. The outstanding performances of Ishaan and Janhvi could take the film to the A class level too.

Khatter has a mobile, expressive face. He is a natural. Kapoor, though, has a hard time emoting. On their own, they each have a couple of scenes which they work: together, there is no zing, no `zingaaat. There will be a modern contemporary Bollywood romance posting new frontiers on the caste-and-class front. Dhadak is not it.

But that definitely isn’t meant to be an inspiration for Dhadak to shrug off its inertia. The film saunters rather than sprints. In Sairat, that strategy clicked famously because that film had its heart in the right place. Dhadak doesn’t. The result is a grind that pretty frames and fresh faces cannot mitigate.

Like its original inspiration, Nagraj Manjules Sairat, the facet of love trying to survive the cruel world of politics and ruthless societal pressure, makes Dhadak engaging. The film follows the Sairat template for most part, but it does change a few scenes and the setting. While it lacks the grit and detail of Manjules original, director Shashank Khaitans Hindi adaptation still makes for a compelling watch. Dhadak attempts to highlight some shocking truths about our society and for that it makes a worthy watch.

Dhadak does full justice to the essence of Sairat. It celebrates young love and the pain it brings. The roller coaster ride the love story paints is what makes Dhadak a worthwhile watch. Dhadak is a stellar debut for newcomers Ishaan Khatter and Jhanvi Kapoor. It also is a beautiful homage to the original Sairat. Jhanvi and Ishaan are here to stay. Welcome to the mad world of showbiz.

On the whole, DHADAK is a simple tale told in a beautiful way. Despite being a remake of an iconic film, it manages to stand up on its feet and entertain the audiences thoroughly. At the box office, the youth is going to savour this flick big time which will ensure commercial success.

Dhadak comes in with the greatest disadvantage of people knowing the shocking elements of the film. I knew where will happen what & hence was prepared for the shocks. There are some changes but the major ones remain the same. All said and done, Dhadak is the heartbeat of love! Supremely performed by Ishaan & Janhvi, this would be go down in the list of remakes well made. Shashank Khaitan has another winner under his belt.
Three and a half stars!

I have not seen Sairat. I felt I should see it before I venture out to review Dhadak. But then I thought: Why not see Dhadak as an independent film? Does it engage me? Does it entertain me? Haven’t we all, me included, compared all star kids to their parents in their debut film itself and given them lesser marks? Haven’t we seen remakes and 10 out of 10 times said that the original was better? Enough was enough, so I entered Dhadak having taken care that it was a virgin territory for me. Janhvi Kapoor is the No.1 reason why you all are going to see this film. Live in denial, I don’t care.
