Fans of the original HBO series (that ended after an eight-season run in 2011) will note that at its heart its still a celebration of enduring friendship. Essentially it feels like a 90-minute episode of the show; the latest chapter in the raunchy, excess-filled lives of our boys from Queens who struck big in movie-town. As a fan of the show, Entourage offered me comfort in the familiar. It was a bit like catching up with old friends who you havent seen in years. Everyones older, but a few drinks in and you realize nothing has changed.Im going with three out of five. If you missed the gang like I did, youll be happy to catch up.

Larsen confesses he has never ever seen any of the films he has funded. We of course have no such luck. Vinces directorial debut €” the 5 minutes that we see of it €” involves a DJ who distributes lighted, magic zorbs from a stick, zombies, and an apparent revolt. A €œmasterpiece€, they all tell him. But Larsen still wont watch.

If you’re not too familiar with the TV series, a bit of catching up with a couple of episodes might help. But that being said, director Doug Ellin (who, fittingly enough, is also the creator of the same show) keeps the plot fairly simple enough for the casual or first-time viewer to figure out what’s going on. And, as with the show, the movie has plenty of plenty of cameos. You might on one hand, find the main characters a bit too breezy, but those familiar with the various seasons of the show will find all of what they see to be reassuringly familiar and fun.

Even better is the blithe feminism that makes Spy feel at once revolutionary and like no big deal. It’s not just that the movie aces the Bechdel test. It didn’t even need to study. The movie isn’t uplifting; it’s buoyant. While Susan at first clearly has a lot to prove – that she’s a skilled professional and a ruthless adversary, everyone else’s doubts to the contrary – Feig doesn’t make her proving it the central arc of the narrative. Instead, he highlights McCarthy’s quickness and unpredictability, her genius for defying logic and decorum. She can be ridiculous and heroic, needy and scary, clueless and clever – in quick succession and sometimes all at once.

If your idea of a fun film is shiny expensive cars, scantily-clad women and lowbrow puns, Entourage will definitely keep you entertained. Also, if youre a die-hard fan of Mark Wahlberg, dont miss out on the film.
