On the whole, Fighter is not half as exciting as it shouldve been. It lacks the fire of an action film and the patriotic fervour of an India-versus-Pakistan film. As such, it will not be able to score at the ticket windows, considering its big budget, huge canvas and scale.

The least one would expect from the first film of an intended franchise is freshness, if not exceptional originality. Let alone soaring to great heights, Fighter, an aerial action thriller directed and co-produced by Siddharth Anand (War, Pathaan), struggles to shake off its flat trajectory.Fighter is fairly watchable. But with a little more imagination and a little less jingoism, it could have been scintillating.

The tactical scenarios and how the Indian Air Force outsmarts the Pakistani defence add to the films thrill and make it more appealing. Fighter does not have much new to offer in terms of its plot and narrative. But it is an engaging fare, and if you are an action buff, the killer aerial combat sequences will leave you impressed.
