On the whole, Gehraiyaan is for the youngsters, the millennials. It is good that the film has been premiered on an OTT platform because it is, in every sense, a film for the digital platform. Of course, the orthodox audience will not appreciate the film.

In Hannah and Her Sisters, a film that Shakun cites as a major influence, a character describes the heart as a very, very resilient little muscle. Gehraiyaan is a testament to that. The film never reaches the poetic heights it aspires to. But it is an intriguing excursion into the unfathomable and ultimately unknowable depths that men and women contain within them. You can watch Gehraiyaan on Amazon Prime Video.

A smarty-pants, lathery relationship drama that labours under the delusion that it is giving the genre a massive makeover,Gehraiyaan isn’t unlike the rented yacht on which many of the film’s key scenes take place. For all its fancy trappings, the film is all at sea.

What does stick out like a sore thumb here is the films length and its lack of clarity. The story digresses heavily in the latter half and makes you wonder where it is headed. With a runtime of 2 hours 28 minutes, it does get a tad monotonous and tiring. Overall, the film has some lovely lingering moments. If you want to look beyond the usual, Gehraiyaan definitely has depth thats worthy of being explored.

Human relationships are complex, and one film might not be enough to untangle the mystery behind it. However, kudos to director Shakun Batra for attempting to delve deeper and try pulling it offshore.

A modern-day romance between consenting adults at cross purposes? A Bollywood movie with the courage to embrace no-holds-barred physicality? Finally, a film that takes mature viewers seriously. Can anything be better? Gehraiyaan raises our expectations but stops well short of delivering.

Gehraiyaan’ successfully delves deeper into the modern complex relationship drama, but it goes much further, and after a point, the film loses its steam. Gehraiyaan’ makes the complex drama too convoluted. You may not end up smiling, and may find it a bit overdramatic.

GEHRAIYAANs beginning is a bit shaky. The way Zain and Alishas bond grows is neatly and organically executed. Even the problems they face doesnt seem sudden and is totally believable. The film takes a turn when Alisha gets pregnant and Zain faces problems in his business. Several scenes in the second half stand out, particularly Tia asking Zain whether hes cheating on her, Zain and Jiteshs confrontation and Zain and Tias fight in the parking lot. The last 30 minutes comes as a bolt from the blue is seen to be believed. The final scene will leave viewers stunned. On the whole, GEHRAIYAAN is a mature relationship drama but has a niche appeal. However the bravura performances and the exciting climax makes the film a decent watch.
