Led by an all-female cast, the new Ghostbusters, a reboot of the beloved 1984 supernatural comedy, is nothing like the travesty that vicious Internet trolls predicted it would be. In fact, its pretty good fun. Its the four leading ladies then and their unending hilarious banter that is the best thing about Ghostbusters. Im going with three out of five.

The new Ghostbusters movie is just what a reboot should be.This is a gleefully dumb summer feature, unapologetically silly and often too smitten with its own leads €” in short, its what a big dumb shaggy-dog blockbuster should be. Only with ladies rocking the jumpsuits this time.Director Peter Feig understands that, and while his reboot celebrates women as well as the spirit(s?) of the original, it never tries to replicate the sparkle those gents conjured up.

Despite the title, and much like the original, this film doesn’t even pretend to be even anything remotely spooky. Instead, it comes across more as a nearly two-hour long joke reel that never takes itself too seriously. Devoted fans of the old film will no doubt look to compare almost every frame, but this film is best enjoyed as being seen as a standalone. Sure, there are quite a few cameos to delight diehards of Ivan Reitman’s flick. But they aren’t really all that consequential to the plot. The film does, however, drag a bit towards the conclusion and it may seem too loud at times. Ghostbusters also takes a clear potshot at sexism in general, but by and large, it delivers a decent amount of fun.

the endgame of Ghostbusters feels utterly at odds with the rest of the movie’s refreshingly low-key tone. But that vibe returns during the film’s fun finale and end-credits crawl, as well as in a final-final stinger that diehard fans won’t want to miss. For all the high dudgeon with which the movie has been anticipated, it turns out that Ghostbusters – like the girls who cheerfully dominate it this time around – just wants to have fun. And it does.
