For anyone that truly loves the movies, there are few things that are more frustrating than watching an insipid, uninspired take on the kind of film that Bollywood not so long ago used to do fairly well. Ginny Weds Sunny is meant to be a light-hearted romantic comedy but its neither staggeringly original in terms of its plot, nor is it able to breathe any freshness into a familiar set up.

The film picks up pace once Ginny starts to get interested in Sunny. But even then, the screenplay is unnecessarily stretched. One of the big holes is the character of Ginny. Yami Gautam is a talented actor who can dial up the charm as we saw in her portrayal of the TikTok queen Pari in Bala. But here her character doesnt have definition Ginny is a spitfire who wants to live life large. So she smokes weed and is openly rude to a prospective groom but underneath the surface, there isnt much meat. Ginny feels more like an idea than a person. Puneet tries to add scale and atmosphere to the film with sweeping aerial shots of Delhi. Like most films based in the city, we also get scenes set in the metro and one in front of India Gate.And thats essentially the problem with Ginny Weds Sunny its too familiar.

There is nothing eye-popping, big or fat about the wedding that the film ends with, and that is the principal plus point of Ginny Weds Sunny. That it isn’t the sort of entertainer that will sweep you off your feet does not undermine its ability to keep you interested in the fate of the two protagonists until the very end, no matter how many missteps mar the progress of the duo – and the film.

All said and done, Ginny Weds Sunny is just like that sweet dish which you may have had before but will still have to kill your sugar-rush. Despite its flaws, its honeyed with Vikrant Massey & Yami Gautams mushy chemistry. Go for it!

On the whole, GINNY WEDS SUNNY rests on a routine plot but yet its worth watching thanks to its well-written screenplay and electrifying chemistry of Vikrant Massey and Yami Gautam. Moreover, its a clean entertainer, devoid of any vulgarity and abuses, and hence is an ideal family entertainer.

Ginny Weds Sunny doesnt offer an interesting take on arranged marriages, nor is it a quirky love triangle with a twist. The most appealing thing in this movie are the mouthwatering garam samosas that are served to one and all. Sadly, the film is not a samosa but a diet wala confused chivda, low on salt.

Why Gautam isnt counted amongst the best in business is a mystery. The underrated actress has often slipped into a range of Delhi-based characters who struggle in articulating or even accessing their more intimate feelings. Shes effortless as Ginny and closely follows her moods and churns. Massey is yet to be seen as a mass entertainer (his onscreen turns have often restricted him to a brooding recluse). But this film gives him the opportunity to get through the grind and even break a leg in several song-and-dance routines. But the highlight here has to be Raza, who conveys her concerned and conniving mum with much abandon and carves an amiable character who stands out.

n Ginny Weds Sunny, whose title leaves little scope for spoilers or surprise, the business of matchmaking is once again at forefront driving a made-for-each-other couple’s meet cute, misunderstandings and marriage.Despite the plainness of this premise, Puneet Khanna’ easy, breezy, low-calorie confection, penned by Navjot Gulati and Sumit Arora, is easy on the eyes and mind. Part of its agreeability stems from a bunch of actors who exude an effortless likeability and the other from the maker’s distaste for dragging conflict.
