On the whole, Goodbye has a weak foundation in the sense that it appears to trivialise death. Hence it will not be able to score at the ticket counters.

Dealing with death, and its aftermath, is a familiar theme. Goodbye is about a Chandigarh family, scattered to the winds, learning about the death of a beloved family member, each in their own way. On the whole, Goodbye has a weak foundation in the sense that it appears to trivialise death. Hence it will not be able to score at the ticket counters.

Goodbye will make you shed copious tears all right but leave you none the wiser about the act of processing of pain and tiding over it. The performances, despite Amitabh Bachchan headlining the cast, are rudimentary. The writing, while achieving an occasional sharp twinge, is inconsistent and aimed at the easily swayed.Goodbye is crafted to deliver an unabashed workout for the lachrymal glands. Its grievously shallow methods undermine its avowed purpose.

Goodbye is not an easy watch if you have lost a parent or are dealing with an ailing one. The thought is universal and moves you to tears but the execution struggles to establish a tone. The film shuttles between moods and past-present with multiple characters thrown in and stringing it all together feels episodic and scrambled. The story oscillates between some heart-warming moments and then something random. The conflict between the family members is more Baghban than Piku, though it tries to lean towards the latter. The story also feels stagnant beyond a point.

On the whole, GOODBYE works due to the touching moments, relatability factor, and performances. However, the film suffers due to the bizarre developments, weak second half, and depressive tone. At the box office, it will turn out to be an average fare.

Goodbye is not a Queen or a Super 30, but its not even a Shaandaar. Vikas Bahl takes us on an emotional roller-coaster with Amitabh Bacchan heading it with his fantastic performance. You can surely watch Goodbye at least once with your family and don’t forget to carry some tissue boxes with you.

Goodbye is a movie that does what it intends to regardless of the flaws that get overshadowed by emotions. It is also an art if you observe. If you can ignore them too, go for it and feel the pain of losing and the way to mend your heart.

The emotional roller-coaster will make you smile, laugh and cry with every character making a special place in our hearts. The film deserves a special mention for the beautiful montages, which showed us the emotional and wonderful relationship of Harish and Gayatri.

To sum it up, Vikas Bahl will wow you with his writing and direction. The subtle fun moments with equally impacting emotional scenes, Goodbye offers a complete package. The films impressive plot and scripting are easily highlighted without any compromise on offering quality content. While some aspects might feel illogical in this satirical piece, the film can be easily enjoyed by all generations.
