Halle Berry is seriously committed to her craft.

Underscoring that point, the Oscar winner has listed the various injuries she’s sustained during her career working on action films, including at least 10 broken bones and being “knocked out three times.”

“Arm broken, broke ribs twice — two ribs one time, three ribs another time — broke tailbone, broke two toes and [my middle] finger,” Berry said during a Netflix interview tied to her upcoming film, The Union. Her costar, Mark Wahlberg, reacted with shock to each of her injuries as she listed them.

For his part, Wahlberg’s list was a little less varied. “Torn meniscus, separated shoulder, ego bruised quite a few times — banged up,” the actor joked.

The Catwoman star also spoke about some of the intense stunts she’s been asked to do during her career, including holding her breath underwater while shooting the 2012 film Dark Tide. “I played a free diver. I had to hold my breath for almost two and a half minutes. And that felt like eternity. It felt like death was imminent,” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Wahlberg and Berry also revealed some of the interesting talents they’ve acquired while working in Hollywood.

“I’ve learned jiu-jitsu, some Muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, and I learned how to shoot,” Berry said, adding that she also studied capoeira while working on Catwoman. Wahlberg’s list, meanwhile, included crochet, ballet, and tango dancing.

Berry acquired at least a few of her injuries while playing a prizefighter in the 2021 film, Bruised. She previously opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the broken ribs she sustained on that film, saying that realizing the stakes, she chose to work through the pain and not pause production.

“[With John Wick 3] I told the director about it, they told the insurance. We had to shut down for months and it was a big ordeal. On [Bruised], because it was an independent movie, we didn’t have a big budget. The director in me said, ‘I didn’t come this far and work this hard to go home,'” she said.

Fight choreographer and stunt coordinator Eric Brown also told EW at the time that Berry had “kind of a crazy injury. But that was just her intensity…. Halle’s a special case. I’ve worked with tons of actors, and almost none of them have that kind of work ethic.”

In The Union, Wahlberg plays Mike, a down-to-earth construction worker, who is suddenly thrust into the world of super spies and secret agents when his high school sweetheart, Roxanne (Berry), recruits him on a high-stakes U.S. intelligence mission.
