Clocking in at a little over two hours, Happy Bhag Jayegi is mostly fun despite its shortcomings, because the humor is earned. The jokes are mined from the characters and the scenarios they find themselves in; theyre never merely slapped onto the narrative like in so many films. Its far from perfect, but its unlikely youll be bored.Im going with three out of five.

On the whole, Happy Bhag Jayegi is good in parts only, but the contrived screenplay will do the film in. In the final tally, it will not be able to do much at the box-office.

Happy Bhag Jayegi is a sweet, slender story stretched to snapping. The runaway bride saga starts out frothy and fun but post-interval, the energy and humor take a nosedive. By the time Happy is united with her prince charming, you are long past caring. Usman Afridi has impeccable Urdu diction and inept detection skills. His weary, befuddled expression put a smile on a face. I wish the rest of the film matched his eccentric, genial comic energy. Im going with two stars.

Happy Bhag Jayegi is a fresh, light-hearted take on cross-border camaraderie that revolves around a runaway bride. It lures you into throwing logic out of the window (‘baher’) for a while as it offers clean entertainment with ample gags. The cat and mouse game between the characters, with a dash of romance, forms the story. Since the love tracks seem unconvincing and abrupt, the second half tanks a bit. The cartoonish climactic chase sequence too seems juvenile. However, overall, the family comedy manages to pull the right strings

In director Mudassar Aziz’s Happy Bhag Jayegi, the titular Happy (Diana Penty) appears to be a hodgepodge of Kareena Kapoor’s boisterous Punjabi girl in Jab We Met, Kangana Ranaut’s audacious rebel in Tanu Weds Manu, Parineeti Chopra’s runaway specialist in Shuddh Desi Romance and Sonam Kapoor’s sneakers-preferring bride in Dolly Ki Doli.As fun as these inspirations are, the end result is a sloppy protagonist who’s neither convincing in her mischief nor original in her exploits.

Happy Bhag Jayegi whips up a steady rhythm in the first half only to lose its way a bit in the second. The film goes all over the place once Bagga decides to follow Happy to Lahore and enlists the support of a local gang of criminals. If Happy Bhag Jayegi does not get on one’s nerves like such half-baked attempts at hilarity tend to do, it is because it remains completely inoffensive. Happy Bhag Jayegi isn’t the kind of film that will have audiences rolling in the aisles. But it might occasionally induce faint smiles on some faces.

Done well, Happy Bhag Jayegi could have been a rollicking comedy. But despite its occasional throwaway lines, and nice touches, it never comes together. If you want me to suspend disbelief and buy into your wholly contrived plot, you have to be able to write your way past the contrivances. This doesnt happen.

The wacky humour is of a piece with the cartoon-strip Lahore setting. €œAsk me about anything but Kashmir,€ Afridi tells Guddu. Mutual tensions, politics and conflict are shoved out of view for a rom-com utopia in which, if only for 126 minutes, Indians and Pakistanis are on the same side. All they want is a barreful of laughs, and at least on that score, the movie doesnt let them down.

This films soul lies in its dialogues and the comic relief instilled in them. A clever writing holds this film together. With too many sub-plots, the films second half seems stretched.Surprisingly, Happy Bhag Jayegi is watchable. The films comic elements and act keep you entertained. This could easily be a Happy family watch.

The way he has presented the film’s characters is extremely real and that’s what works in the favour of the film. The film, which takes off with an impressive start in the first half, gradually tends to slow down and lag amidst the second half because of multiple tracks. The good thing is that, despite losing its track amidst the second half, Mudassar Aziz manages to get the film back on track towards the climax. On the whole, HAPPY BHAG JAYEGI comes across as a feel good film that will make you happy. At the Box-Office, its prospects will be rewarding for its makers.

Happy Bhaag Jayegi is a situational comedy that doesnt take itself too seriously. A Punjabi brides elopement plan that goes awry and takes her to Lahore is what sets the ball rolling. But the unfortunate part is that its not easy to buy into Pentys story. Her love for her childhood mate, essentially an unemployed musician, is unconvincing. Shes all heart and no logic. While she paints a fetching picture, she isnt compelling enough to nail the goofy act. And why do all the men in this film fall head over heels in love with her? Fortunately, the love angles were wrapped up in a sensible manner. There was no drama and that was a relief. This is no laugh riot, but Happy Bhaag Jayegi has its glorious moments. Reserve this for a one-time watch.
