The film’s greatest strength lies in its emotional moments. The relationships between Bea and the IFs, along with her bond with her father (played by Krasinski), are beautifully portrayed. These interactions highlight the importance of holding onto childhood joys and the power of imagination in overcoming life’s challenges. ‘IF’ is a solid and entertaining film that successfully taps into the magic of childhood imagination. While it may not break new ground in storytelling, its strong performances, charming characters, and beautiful visuals make it a worthwhile watch.

While the film is not completely holistic, it’s visually beautiful. The imaginary characters are well displayed and even leave you in splits in many scenes. The voice actors behind the characters, especially Steve Carell as Blue and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Blossom are fantastic. John and Ryan deliver their best as always. But the real star of the film is Cailey Fleming. She binds the film together beautifully with her performance. It’s her film out and out.Bottom line: John Krasinski, Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming take you on a mesmerising journey with their imaginary friends. Just play along!

It’s a painful process, more for us than Bea – and Reynolds doesn’t look like he is having much fun either. The funny stuff is not funny, the jokes don’t land, there are no real emotional high points and some characters seem to be there for no reason at all. It makes one appreciate Toy Story’s effortless accomplishments even more.

Despite its occasional flashes of sweetness, IF’S lack of depth makes it more of a half-hearted daydream than a vivid adventure. Perhaps Krasinski should stick to his terrifying, sound-sensitive imaginary friends than the cute and cuddly ones.

Still, the idea that adults could still make use of their old “IFs” at difficult times — and, to broaden the thought, summon their dormant sense of whimsy, as a closing scene captures nicely — is a worthwhile one. And by movie’s end, one can imagine more than one adult in the multiplex running home, checking under the bed, hoping to find a trusted old friend.

On the whole, IF rests on the unique concept and the star value. But due to the confusing narrative and lack of a ‘Wow’ factor, it might face a tough time at the box office.
