Interesting ideas don’t always make for interesting films… Archaic writing is the biggest culprit here… Director #Shankar misses a golden opportunity… Even #KamalHaasan’s wonderful act cannot salvage it.

Someone should have saved us, the viewers, instead. Indian 2 is nothing but a three hour time suck, where I was bored out of my wits. The end credits tell us that there’s going to be a third part. Help.

Kamal Haasan fans will obviously go berserk over this film. But if you are one of those for whom entertainment means a classic Indian movie with action, drama and emotions, you will enjoy it too as a one-time watch with a sequel (said to have been shot simultaneously) to come.

It is only when the film explores the personal stakes that we care about it and realise what it could have been. We wish there had been more of scenes like the one in which Chitra Aravindan has to expose his father and suffers a loss due to his action. Perhaps, it would have been effective if the narrative had been a contained one, focusing strictly on this conflict, instead of being expansive in an effort to go pan-Indian.

Fight sequences are unnecessarily stretched, repetition of many sequences to prove the same point over and over bore you out. Director Shankar, who is strong at conveying emotions, failed to evoke any sort of emotion in this film. However, he manages to give a high with the ‘Indian 3’ trailer. With many goosebumps-inducing sequences, you wonder if ‘Indian 2’ could have been cut short by an hour and a half at least to bring the two parts together.
