For all the references to the aam aadmi and the solutions it offers to inspire change, this film ultimately is about the victory of a man who lets his fists do the talking. Muddled message there. I’m going with two out of five for Jai Ho. It might have its heart in the right place, but the brain appears to be missing.

On the whole, a noble, well-intentioned message narrated in an entertaining format in a Salman Khan movie, who, as we all know by now, is the much endeared hero of the masses, makes JAI HO a sure-shot winner. In fact, it won’t be wrong to state that JAI HO easily ranks amongst Salman’s better films. This one has the potential to emerge a Blockbuster at the box-office.

Jai Ho is not a well-scripted film but Salman Khan proves that he is bigger than the script. Salman and his action make this film an entertaining fare for the single-screen cinema audiences and the masses but the response from the multiplex-frequenting audiences will be mixed. Worldwide distributors Eros have paid a fortune for the India and Overseas theatrical distribution rights and they may just about break even but the distributors of the individual circuits, who have acquired the distribution rights from Eros at crazy prices, may not prove equally lucky.

In all honesty, Im confused about how to evaluate Jai Ho. Because its not a film. Its a cartoon. So to point out that the story is laughably ridiculous or that the characterization has no depth seems churlish. After all, you cant go to see a cartoon and then complain about its disconnect with reality. So venture in if you enjoy the Salman Khan brand of thundering male fantasy. Im going with two and a half stars.

Jai Ho’- A remake of Telugu film ‘Stalin’ (inspired by Hollywood film ‘Pay It Forward’) resonates with the current mood of the country. Sparking an optimistic hope of a Utopian world. Sohail presents our ‘Hero of the Masses’ fabulously – with all Salmanisms perfectly in place. The premise pompously alerts us of cliches and trappings of a commercial masala fare. The screenplay is not as inspiring as the noble message, the story cuts into too many episodes and the underlying idea is repetitive.

Jai Ho, directed by brother Sohail Khan, has an honourable premise (based on Chiranjeevis Telugu super-hit Stalin) but doesnt hold up for want of deft filmmaking and sleek aesthetics. What could have been a relevant crowd-pleaser with a little effort from Sohail Khan and his writers is mostly a tedious and overcrowded drivel that shamelessly depends on Salmans strapping charisma to tide them over.

Having said that, my one and only laugh in Jai Ho came when Khan punched a car window and — in a film where he throws people through all manner of doors and walls and vehicles — explained himself saying he didnt know it had been rolled up. Does he really want to be in on the joke now? Or maybe he already is. .

There is absolutely nothing uncommon about Jai Ho. It is strictly hackneyed fare about a wronged man who goes berserk in his mission to rid his own life and that of the nation of a very powerful tormentor. Jai Ho is a tale that is about as exciting and just as empty as the spiel of a politician going to the polls. Eminently avoidable unless you are a diehard Salman Khan fan.

`Jai Ho could have been a pure and simple `Dabangg 3. Its not. Its not even a no-holds-barred South remake either, despite its quarts of spurting blood and broken bones). Jais aam aadmi ( he says the phrase, and the audience erupts, rightfully, in this age of ascendant mango people ) catches traction only a moment. In the rest, he goes back to snarling and kicking and scowling.

Unlike Salmans previous films, Jai Ho isnt a typical masala movie. The dialogues are simple and connect well with the audiences. The action sequences have been shot well and the cinematography is clean and impressive. Kudos to the Khan brothers for pulling off a film like Jai Ho.

Jai Ho time travels back to the 80s and delivers an outdated, clich©d and ham-fisted attempt at showing a hero fighting for the common man. Bhai plays Jai, a Hulk Hogan version of Arvind Kejriwal, who fights corrupt politicians, saves damsels in distress; helps injured beggars, amputees write exams; restores kidnapped children to their parents and beats up goons who dare to lay a hand on his sister.

Finally, the film fails to ennoble itself beyond what the contours of the script holds for it. Lacking the quirky fun of Dabangg or Ek Tha Tiger, Jai Ho simply furthers Salmans Being Human status. However, it still scores over all of Salmans works put together for its ability to translate the common mans simmering anger into a Utopian and satisfying climax. A definite not-miss!

Jai Ho is Salmans attempt at resurrecting another brothers career. While Salman loyalists might applaud and hoot, and ensure their star remains unaffected at the movie box-office, its the other discerning movie-watchers who are left rather disappointed. Jai Ho is just a glorious canvas that piggybanks heavily on Salmans colossal popularity. Head out only if you are a Salman supporter, if not, this social campaign might appear unimaginatively tiring.
