John Abraham’s Espionage RAW – Romeo Akbar Walter Bollywood Movie Review

We see there are ample movies being made that based on the martyr and the warriors of our nation we have had since ages, in fact, we see them all since our independence and post that era as well. But, what Romeo Akbar Walter has done is immensely marvellous. This is my personal view on the movie – coming to the story, it has nailed like any other RAW and intelligence agencies movies in Bollywood, but what makes me intrigued is the ability to pull it off with the niche that it almost felt that it can be an anti-Indian movie. Nonetheless, it wasn’t!!

To start with RAW – Romeo Akbar Walter

can be a slow burner for many as the pace goes like a turtle but later it cleans up the mess from our nation during the times of 1971 war and post that when Walter Khan (John Abraham) soars into the patriotic Indian agent working on the lands of Pakistan.

The story

The first half, in specific, is quite deliberate and takes its own time for the setup and build up. You might feel that nothing’s really up-to-the-minute here in this movie and it is getting emotional on every front unnecessary, but nah, by the end of the film, it all makes sense. The writing is pretty good I must say and the screenplay is a bit precarious. I personally loved the twists in the movie but was hoping to have more; however, no offence but the script perhaps demanded the same.

Romeo (John Abraham) played a spy but was shown as a bank cashier who was then recruited by India’s foreign intelligence agency — the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). They believe he’s a master of disguise and can operate as Akbar, India’s undercover agent in Pok (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) – all these events are during the time around 1971 Indo-Pak war. He pulled it off strategically and for me, it is one of the most amazing works of John post-Madras Café.

I quite like the entry of Sikandar Kher – the moment he steps in the movie the twists and the drama enthralled the audience. I would like to see more of him in films and of Raghubir Yadav as well as they both are fabulous actors in their own genre and Kher has to be pulled off more. Mouni Roy needs to work on acting skills more, it’s nothing like she isn’t one but for movies and great cinema she had to choose what makes her comfortable. Needless to say about amazing work done by Jackie Shroff, it was a delight to see him on the screen in such a strong character.
