The universe of John Wick continues to expand with a TV series set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4 now in the works. Since the release of the first film, John Wick, in 2014, the franchise has become one of the biggest in Hollywood, with each new film grossing more than the previous entry. John Wick: Chapter 4 was released in 2023 and seemed to mark the end of the series as the main character was killed off, but the franchise is far from dead.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate is developing a television series called John Wick: Under the High Table. The series will be written by Robert Levine, with John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski as an executive producer and director of the pilot episode. The series is described as picking up right after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4which is said to show how the fallout from John Wick’s death has left the High Table in a tenuous position.

At the same time, a collection of new characters seek to make a name for themselves. In contrast, some franchise stalwart characters remain committed to the old-world order, hinting at some possible appearance by some fan favorites. The series will “combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age,” the report states. While Keanu Reeves will not star in the series, he will be an executive producer. The plans for the television show also reportedly do not interfere with plans for John Wick 5.

The John Wick Universe Continues To Grow

John Wick is one of the rare 21st-century franchises that originated as an original idea. While John Wick’s story seemingly ended in Chapter 4, the franchise is growing, with last year’s The Continental: From the World of John Wick, a three-episode prequel miniseries that focused on a young Winston taking control of the legendary Continental Hotel. Meanwhile, 2025 will see the release of Ballerinanow retitled John Wick Presents Ballerina.

Ballerina is a spin-off set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4 and follows Rooney (Ana de Armas), a young assassin previously alluded to in the third film. John Wick: Under the High Table will likely be an important entry in expanding the John Wick story, no doubt laying the groundwork for more spin-off films in the future, such as the one focused on Donnie Yen’s Caine.

Ana de Armas’ Ballerina is set to continue the John Wick saga and new footage showed some surprises.

While John Wick: Under the High Table will feature references to the films, including the upcoming Ballerina, the status of The Continental remains a little more up in the air. Ian McShane, who played Winston in the John Wick films, slammed the miniseries as a cash grab, and the series notably did not involve franchise director Chad Stahelski. However, the series was a hit on Peacock, becoming one of its biggest original series.
