Todd Phillips’ direction feels aimless, and while his attempt to introduce a musical element is bold, it ultimately strays too far. The blend of psychological drama with musical elements comes off as a failed experiment. ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ isn’t a terrible film, but it falls far short of the expectations set by its predecessor. Keeping expectations low for this unnecessary sequel might be wise.

Joker: Folie à Deux had much potential to be as riveting as its first part. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga shine nevertheless with the flaws of the movie. We just wish that the musical touch could have been kept at bay, or at least their placement appeared with more logic and rationale.
