KICK-ASS 2  MOVIE REVIEW

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times Of India (TOI)

Politically incorrect dialogues aside, Kick-Ass 2 is actually quite a fun ride. Beneath the deliberately ridiculous costumes and mock-serious dialogues lies a sea of brutality and gore gleefully topped off with the kind of language that would make a sailor blush. But violence aside, there’s also the message about the real hero being the person behind the costume and not the accoutrements. Moretz gives a strong performance. All said and done, this movie definitely kicks ass. Note: You may not like this film if you are put off by spoof flicks containing a lot of violence, bad language and s** jokes.

Kick-Ass 2 is a travesty. The lines are obvious. The fight scenes are generic. There is no wit. There are no smarts. Jim Carrey is great, but has three scenes. All it has in its favour is Chloe Moretz, who is fantastic as a rule, no matter how bad the movie may be. The heros uninteresting, the villain is a bad joke €” who hits rock-bottom with an awful rape joke, which in itself makes this a bad film €” and the rest of the film has, in the name of Nolan-loving darkness, lots of death. But none of it counts. Not even when a character with immense potential is beheaded. If you liked the first, go ahead and pretend this one doesnt exist. Its what Big Daddy would do.

We wish there were more back stories to these characters. We get to see them act in a certain way never knowing what triggered it off. Also after a while the stunts and the action feels too routine leaving very little to no space for surprise. Even Jim Carreys extended cameo seems uninspired. Not as good as its predecessor, Kick Ass 2 has much left to be desired.

The Kick-Ass series was always ultra violent, but the mindless gorefest in this film simply lacks the edge. The humour is flimsy and the social context the film tries giving to all the mayhem is lost in a loose plot. Simply avoid.

Most sequels are cursed, they can almost never be at par with the original masterpiece. The same holds true for Kick-Ass 2. However, the film isnt as disappointing as most sequels turn out to be.The second-half is quite a drag as compared to the first half which I safely blame on all the unwanted drama. Kick-Ass 2 lags behind on the humour and wit-meter as compared to the original.
