On the whole, Kuttey is an entertaining film. It is class-appealing and will, therefore, get more critical acclaim than box-office rewards because such films nowadays work better on OTT platforms. Family audience patronage will be less for the film. At the ticket windows, the well-written, well-made and well-enacted film will do limited business but collections will definitely pick up as the word of mouth among the class audience will be good.

Almost the entire first half feels like a chaotic-yet-flat set-up where these characters slide in and out. A post-interval portion gives us a glimpse of what the film was aiming for dark, twisty, fast-paced, with each character trying to outwit the other but overall it remains choppy, and half-baked.

There are pacing issues galore as well as the sloppy sewing together of multiple storylines or bringing in a canine or two into the frame for the sake of symbolism. But at 112 minutes, Kuttey, warts and all, seldom overstays its welcome. The first-time director has a flair for cynicism and conversation, but needs to work on the synergy of his storytelling. In Kuttey, he relies too much on his influences. In his next, I hope he comes completely into his own. After all, Aasmaan’s the limit. Right, Bhardwaj?

By crafting a complex, dark satire that is nearly perfect, the rookie filmmaker shows his mettle. Something that filmmakers nowadays, even seasoned ones, struggle to attain. The pretty exciting, action-packed thriller, with its comedic chase scenes, promises a lot but only partially delivers. The utterly unexpected twist, which I’m willing to bet no one will see coming, and the fresh approach to the grab-and-run sub-genre are the reasons to see ‘Kuttey’.

As a debutant director, Aasman Bharadwaj proves his mettle by juggling an overstuffed plot and a bunch of talented actors. ‘Kuttey’ isn’t exactly a deep, dark satire made to perfection, yet it is a wildly entertaining mishmash of guns, goons and gaalis.

While Kuttey seems like a snooze fest in the first half, the second half is not totally disappointing. Watch it for some amazing acting chops from some of the finest actors. I am going with 2.5 stars.

Kuttey manages to use the right punches in a dark tale of drama, comedy and lawlessness. While there aren’t any loopholes to find, and that makes the Bollywood fanatic in me extremely happy, because we come by such amazing films so rarely.

The movie attempts a new genre and that works in the favour of a young director like Aasmaan Bhardwaj. Before rejecting Kuttey as a rip-off of Guy Ritchie-style movies, one must appreciate the fresh attempt at storytelling in Bollywood. This genre surely has potential.

The trailer promised us a heist story and the film serves us exactly that without any adulteration.Bhardwajs complex yet simple narrative keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for a spectacular climax but thats where you feel that you probably expected a lot. The non-linear narrative is the adrenaline of the film and owing to that you expect a crazy climax but Aasmaan falls a little short to deliver here.
