MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is like a calendar of events from the life of Indias most successful cricket captain. Its really a hagiography. Never an insightful character study of a fascinating and largely impenetrable personality. If youve always wondered what lies beneath Dhonis calm veneer, or whats going on in his head when the chips are down, be warned this film doesnt answer those questions.Which is not to say that it doesnt work. Special 26 director Neeraj Pandeys film is a rousing drama. Mostly because our protagonists journey from a small-town boy with big dreams to Indias star wicketkeeper-batsman is an inspiring one.

Let me begin with the confession that I know absolutely nothing about cricket. Im one of the few people in this country who remain resolutely uninterested in the sport. What I can tell you is that Neeraj Pandeys telling of Dhonis life is in equal parts, thrilling, moving and utterly exhausting. But in between this is almost three hours of watching Dhoni become the man that he is. Its an incredible story of a middle class boy from Ranchi who becomes the richest cricket player in the world.

On the whole, M.S. Dhoni The Untold Story is a sureshot hit at the box-office. It will fly high and fast much like the ball flies when M.S. Dhoni hits it for a six on the cricket field. Not just in the first week, the films collections in the second week will also be outstanding.

Neeraj Pandey’s MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is an odd biopic, a rousing rags-to-riches story that happens also to be a hagiographical picture of a flawless protagonist. The film doesn’t challenge our perception as much as amiably pat it into place, yet — thanks largely to a remarkably committed performance by the leading man — the film scores like a champ. It feels at times like we’re watching a highlights package of a game we’ve already watched and loved, but sometimes that is satisfying enough.

If you are a diehard fan of MS Dhoni and cricket (in that order), you are bound to love this film, which reveres its protagonist. Despite the glorification, what works is Sushants impeccable portrayal of a stoic Dhoni and the latters inspiring untold story – his journey from being a ticket collector to a renowned attacking batsman/wicket-keeper/captain. However the biopic loses its momentum in the second half with Dhonis love life getting undue prominence. Also, the cricketers questionable decisions or possible vices are mostly overlooked.

On the whole, M.S. DHONI: THE UNTOLD STORY hits it out of the park with a huge six on the account of its engaging narrative and a brilliant screenplay. In a nation where Bollywood and cricket are considered as religion, the amalgamation of both will work wonders at the Box-Office, setting new records. Dont miss it for anything in the world. O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G.

A tribute to MSDs success, this works due to the extensive research. They have touched Dhonis tender sides also, but the treatment is likely to suit the protagonist. In short, he may become a cleaner and bigger hero after the film. But, you have to give to Pandey to keep it intriguing enough for you to get hooked throughout the three hours. Unquestionably entertaining. Also, its the role of a lifetime for Sushant, and he has killed it.

Sushant Singh Rajput ably pulls off his act as Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Neeraj Pandey promises to suck you into Dhonis world from the word go!A languid pace of the first half is a problem. Also, a 3 hour run-time could have been avoided by cutting down on the whole love angle. M.S.Dhoni -The Untold Story is certainly a must-watch if youre a fan of Indian cricket. Get to know the man behind the composed, confident, match-finisher of Indian cricket team.

But overall, M S Dhoni – The Untold Story does not mirror the Indian stumper’s batting style. It is neither strikingly unconventional nor particularly effective. It is too starchy and deferential to be anything more than an effete paean to the life and times of India’s most successful cricket captain.Instead of delving into the complexities of an international sporting career with its share of controversy, the patchy script glosses over the grey areas and concentrates squarely on lionizing Dhoni as a model sportsman.? M S Dhoni – The Untold Story is targeted at fans of the cricketer and they are legion.

On the lop side though the first half of the movie languishes as the director focuses much on exploiting Dhonis background and what shaped his sensibilities. His relationships, his hardships and his romantic side consume much screen space. In the second half though the movie gains pace and momentum as the story quickly moves from highlighting the roots that consolidated Dhonis position as a level headed chap with grit to his victorious moments. These are the very moments that are etched in our collective memories and Pandey pushes the right triggers to evoke national pride.

This film had potential to present us with the recent Indian cricketing story, warts and all. Sadly its more hagiography than biography: the cricketer is reduced to a being singing-dancing Bollywood hero rather than a top-flight cricketer, a master strategist, and a captain who led from the front. True champions have that edge that no one else does: on that score, the real-life Dhoni hits it out of the park, every single time. Too bad the reel Dhoni gets stumped just when he is getting started.

Director Neeraj Pandey creates a heartwarming small town atmosphere in the first half where friends and family cheer for the young Dhoni as the news of €œMahi maar raha hain€ spreads like wildfire. The strength of the film is in its beautiful characters played so brilliantly by each one of them. MS Dhoni is yet another safe, simple, decently directed, decently enacted, never-ending ode to Dhoni without any crisis to deal with. Watch it only if you are a Mahi fan

Whats not to love about an underdog who makes it to the big league? Until the films interval, things were moving at a languid but engaging pace. It was refreshing to see a Hindi film which did not shirk from showing how ordinary your life can get if you rein in your ambitions. But its the second half that lets this biopic down. But what elevates the patchy screenplay in the second half is Rajputs charismatic performance. While this may not be Pandeys best Bollywood innings, its definitely watchable.
