MORE DETAIL:

MERMAID MAGIC is an animated Netflix series for children. It follows Merlinda, the princess of Mertropia, and her friends, Nerissa and Sasha, as they venture into the human world to find magic pearls and save their kingdom. The first three episodes follow the mermaids as they make friends with siblings Tyler and Celia, learn more about humanity and fight off the sea monsters who attack them at every turn.

Episode 1 introduces viewers to Princess Merlinda, her friends Nerissa and Sasha, and her father, King Seaford, who lives in Mertropia with the rest of the mermaids. As the mermaids head to school, the sky suddenly grows dark. Merlinda learns her father has been using his life force to power the magic pearls that protect the kingdom. The pearls are running out of power, and King Seaford’s life force won’t last forever.

Merlinda and her friends sneak through the portal from Mertropia to the outside world and find more pearls armed with a map made by Merlinda’s mother. The mermaids are separated and lose the map after a dangerous encounter with sea monsters. Merlinda washes up on siblings Tyler and Celia’s boat while the sea monsters bring the map to the evil pirate Barbarossa, who wants to steal the mermaids’ powers.

In Episode 2, Merlinda wakes up on land and is initially scared of Tyler and Celia. They convince her they want to help, and she shares her quest for the magic pearls. She also realizes that her magic trident ring has broken, cutting down on her power. The siblings decide to help her, taking her to the town’s pirate museum to go through the archives in search of answers. Meanwhile, Nerissa and Sasha wash up on shore and look for Merlinda, making their way to the pirate museum.

The mermaids’ use of their powers alerts the sea monsters to their location, and they attack the museum. Merlinda, Nerissa, and Sasha team up and fight them off with the help of Tyler and Celia. They capture one of the sea monsters and plan to use it to find the monster’s lair. Meanwhile, Barbarossa struggles to unlock the map’s secrets. After learning of the mermaids’ presence on land, he vows to find and capture them.

Episode 3 follows the mermaids as they go to school with Tyler and Celia to find out if anyone has seen the monsters or knows where they come from. One student reveals he saw the monsters in the school basement. When the group investigates, they find an underground river explaining how the sea monsters have been popping up around town.

While the mermaids fight them off, the monsters attack, and Celia recalls a special ring in the museum’s archives. She gets the ring to Merlinda, who uses it to defeat the monsters. She also realizes that the ring belonged to her mother, who disappeared when she was a baby after sacrificing herself to fight off the monsters. Despite being far from finding the map they need; the mermaids take heart after Tyler and Celia offer to use their knowledge to help locate the pearls to save Mertropia.

The show has a strong moral worldview, with themes focusing on helping others, taking responsibility, protecting the environment, and sacrificing oneself for the greater good.
