Buried somewhere inside Mimi is a moving story about parenting and what it means to raise and love a child. But before we get here, which is roughly in the last 15 minutes, we have to endure over two hours of a simpering, poorly written dramedy about a 25-year-old woman in Rajasthan, who agrees to become a surrogate mother so that she can fund her dream to become a Bollywood heroine. Which perfectly sums up the trouble with this film its lack of believability.

On the whole, Mimi is an ordinary fare and will be able to make a place for itself in the hearts of one section of the public, mainly that section which looks for novelty in subject. Had it been released in the cinemas, it wouldve done fair business.

All said and done, Mimi is the biggest surprise of the year. Laced with stupendous performance, a breezy high-on-emotions story, Rahmans soothing opera, Sanons career-best act & Tripathi being classic for the nth time, Mimi is a delightful blend of humour and emotions.Four Stars

As a means to enhancing the social relevance of the story, the film appends a message to its fag-end but no mention can be made of what it is because that would be a spoiler. By the time Mimi runs its course – the film is never particularly pregnant with possibilities once it has played its womb-for-hire trump card – it manages to tell us that one need not give birth to be a parent
