The animation is outstanding, especially the landscapes and the recreation of the 70s. The tykes going all puppy-eyed and being the mad hatters that they are make the movie a complete laugh riot. Its an entertaining watch for kids as well as adults. Too grud to miss.

The animation is top-notch. Some scenes, especially those set in San Francisco €” those up-and-down roads, the trams €” are breathtaking. But the thing that really makes this thing sing is that each character feels alive, and for a franchise film whose characters are amongst the fastest-selling toys on the planet, thats quite an achievement.

The animated comedy is an 88-minute delight, further enlivened by the talented voice cast (which includes Julie Andrews as Grus mother and Michelle Yeoh as a Kung Fu master) that aspires to simply entertain all ages. If the little ones in the audience are squealing in delight at the shenanigans of the Minions, from trying to fly a plane to learning Kung Fu, then mission accomplished.

Minions: The Rise of Gru has a plot, but no story. It features references, but few jokes. Ultimately, enjoying it comes down to whether or not you can tolerate 90 minutes of €œle ooga booga banana por favor,€ and if youre under the age of 3, the answer is probably yes €” but in that case, any parent may as well just plop their kid in front of a YouTube playlist of D-Billions instead.
