What have we here? It’s a sparkly, shiny… new trailer for Moana 2, of course. With just over a month to go before Disney’s sequel to their seafaring 2016 smash Moana hits cinemas, the House of Mouse are teasing more of what fans can expect from the return of Auli’i Cravalho’s titular master voyager and Dwayne Johnson’s semi-demi-god Maui. And if this latest trailer for the movie is anything to go by, then there’s going to be lots of singing, lots of new characters, lots of peril, and lots of incredible-looking water that makes you nudge whoever’s next to you and go, “that water looks so real, doesn’t it? Isn’t it amazing what they can do these days?” Check it out below (both the trailer and the water — it really is quite something!):

What did we tell you, eh? Marvellous stuff! Helmed by directorial first-timer David Derrick Jr., Moana 2 looks to be another rollicking Polynesian rollercoaster ride as our heroine — now big sister to the adorable Simea (Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda) and fully fledged leader in her own right — brings together a motley crew to venture beyond Motunui’s horizon once more in search of more lost ancestors and a new curse to break. Here we get to see Maui back on top shapeshifting form (yes, half-shark Maui is back!), a fearsome looking new elemental foe, and brief glimpses of crew newcomers (crewcomers?) Moni, Kele and Loto, played by Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo — as well as Awhimai Fraser’s mysterious Matangi and Moana’s ancestor Tautai Vasa (Gerald Ramsey). And as if that weren’t enough, new ballad ‘We’re Back’ — penned by incoming sequel songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear alongside returnees Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i — is a bit of a banger, too.

Here’s the movie’s official logline: “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.” And, as we see in the new trailer, also wading into those long-lost waters for Moana 2 are Rachel House’s Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison’s Chief Tui, and Nicole Scherzinger’s Sina.

We’ll see how far Moana, Maui, and the Motunui crew go this time when Moana 2 makes a splash landing in multiplexes all over on 27 November.
