In short, this film depicts the most dysfunctional of dysfunctional families. All said and done though, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 does have a distinct sitcom-like feel to it. You can almost imagine this concept being stretched into several seasons, mined with gags galore. Jones and Vardalos have moved away from a distinctly Greek aesthetic and have focused on funny family drama. As an ensemble comedy, it somewhat works. But the jokes could have been more in number. Pass the spanakopita, please.

We all know about big families and big weddings. Since 2002, we also know about big Greek families and big Greek weddings. And their obsession with food, marriage and lineage, not necessarily in that order. Fourteen years later, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 doesnt travel much further. – There is an idea there, but this film is more content playing on its old, successful themes, including a Windex spray, and even inveigles a wedding between Toulas still-squabbling parents under the flimsiest of pretexts to justify the title. – See more at:

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,” an overstuffed, under-achieving sequel that took more than a decade to come to the screen. This is a recurring problem with the film, directed by Kirk Jones; what seemed quirky and funny in the original is exaggerated to un-funny extent here. It’s as if Vardalos was trying to take things to a darker, more interesting place, but at every such turn, got scared and went for slapstick humor instead.
