Pari has *some* genuinely scary/eerie/terrifying moments that startle you… The film works in bits and spurts – not in entirety… Screenwriting is patchy and lacks the punch… Also, the gore and gruesome portions are off-putting…Pari director Prosit Roy creates an eerie atmosphere and is well aided by the DoP… Roy also uses sound to enhance and at times, create the desired impact… How one wishes he wouldve kept the writing simplistic and one that engrosses you from start to end.

Pari doesnt come together in a coherent, satisfying way. Theres a lot going on in the film, including references to true historical events from the subcontinent, and an over-dependence on old wives tales about spirits and ifrits and jinns. What starts out interestingly, ends in a mess. Im going with two out of five.

The best thing about Pari is leading lady Anushka Sharma. She is at once, scary, strange and strong. In some scenes she is achingly vulnerable. In others, she is horrifying. Its great that as a producer Anushka is making such unconventional choices NH 10, Phillauri and now Pari but the quality is too erratic.Pari asks the big question are human beings in fact the biggest monsters? I say the biggest horror is a lame script.

On the whole, Pari shouldve been more entertaining and less confusing. Although it has some terrifying scenes and a couple of heartwarming ones, those are simply not enough. The film will not be able to reach even the average mark mainly because it does not leave the audience satisfied. It will entail losses.

Prosit Roy’s Pari is Ek Thi Daayan in reverse. For a film with a cunningly baroque and riveting first half, Kannan Iyer’s Ek Thi Daayan had one of the lamest conclusions ever thought up for a movie. Pari, on the other hand, starts off like a nervous, freshly minted calf, and then puts the squeeze on the audience as the story speeds up. It’s when its narrative moves into a psychedelic underworld that Pari shocks you with the directions it takes.

Pari appears puzzled as if they dont know how to end what they started. Anushka Sharmas film attempts to look different than usual bhoot ki film, but in the end, finishes right where 1920 Evil Returns or Alone did. With 136-minute screen time, Pari doesnt head anywhere. Its jumbled, chaotic and bland. You may not want to let the clan spread.

Pari is an art-house, indie thriller which moves at its own pace, in its own unique way. It collates elements that are rare to find in commercial scary movies €” eerie silence, haunting yet soothing melancholic music, an enchanting love story and an air of paranoia that grips you slowly and steadily. Led by a fine set of actors €” Anushka Sharma, Parambrata Chatterjee and Rajat Kapoor infuse substance to the story with their understated act and ensure it doesnt fall flat even when the pace drops.

Hindi horror films have often got the rap for being unintentionally funny with its terrible acting, overload of creaky door sounds and evil men parading in bad prosthetic make-up. Pari, the supernatural thriller starring Anushka Sharma and Parambrata Chatterjee with an 18+ rating in the UAE, doesnt suffer from those near-fatal flaws. Be warned though, its heavy on the gore with its bloody twists. But it doesnt bore you..Kapoor as the determined exorcist isnt an easy man to like, but thats his victory in such a film. Watch this if you are in the mood for a gore-filled horror film.

The film isn’t scary but it will leave you with an unsettled feeling. Pari has disturbing sequences — like the birthing scene from the trailer — that will gross you out and make you nauseous, at least the weak-hearted ones. Like any typical horror film in Bollywood, Pari resorts to using loud noises sporadically to startle you but fails miserably. Anushka climbs up, jumps on to humans, bites into dogs, hangs from the window, flies midair but doesn’t really send shivers down your spine. All she manages to do is leave you disturbed.
