When a woman says no, it means no. It doesnt matter how shes dressed, whether shes had a drink or two, whether she was flirting with the man earlier, and irrespective of her sexual history. The filmmakers drive home this point with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, and Pink is all the better for it. I left the cinema, my mouth dry at the end of Pink. This isnt just an important film, but also excellently made. Its a giant leap for Hindi cinema, and easily the best film this year. Im going with four-and-a-half out of five.

Pink is a savage indictment of our sordid patriarchy that shackles women in stereotypes. Pink works because the grimness of the material doesn’t weigh on the telling. This isn’t a laboured lecture on women’s rights. The first half works as a thriller and the second as a courtroom drama. Aniruddha keeps the scenes tight and tense. The writing by Ritesh Shah is terrific. So are the performances.

Watched #Pink… Shocked. Stunned. Speechless… An OUTSTANDING movie in every respect… Taut writing and exemplary direction.. Pink is relevant… Raises pertinent questions… Exposes double standards… Mirrors harsh reality… Hits you like a ton of bricks…Take a bow, director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury… You are a master storyteller… Like to single out courtroom sequences, esp post-interval… Pink is yet another sparkling performance in Sr Bachchan’s illustrious career… He is in terrific form… Final word: DON’T MISS IT!

This is a solid, terse film that makes its points in mainstream fashion with an appropriate lack of subtlety. Pink is a barnstormer — and it doesn’t pull its punches.The entire film is hard to shake off, and Chowdhury must be applauded for his creative choices.If that entire courtroom drama feels too good to be true, that’s because, soberingly enough, it is. Amitabh Bachchan isn’t around to stand by our women. We should be.

Pink is a powerful statement on the existing feudal mindset of a majority of India, where men and women are judged by a different yardstick. And if the man happens to be from a powerful family, then the fight for justice is even more skewed. Pink questions the society’s mindset where we think girls with short hemlines and those who enjoy a drink with men are low on morals.

All those associated with the making of Pink, please take a deep bow: finally, a powerful, brave Hindi mainstream film which focuses on real young women who live real lives and deal with thorny day-to-day issues, which young women the world over will identify and relate with. I know where the young leads in Pink are coming from. And I know too many women who have been in their place, or missed being in that place by a scary, scarring whisker.

Its about every woman living in this egoistically twisted mans world. Its about parents, brothers and husbands worried about their loved ones safety. Pink keeps us gripped from all sides even as a strictly entertainment package. The intricacies of the case unfold like a thriller. You wont miss the usual Bollywood courtroom theatrics either. Still you will get to know a thing or two about the contemporary feminist debates.

Being a single woman in Delhi makes for fragile existence. Constantly scoped by the prying eyes of neighbours who deduce her character based on when she returns home and the guests she entertains, it is an unsettling world. This is the backdrop of Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink, which effectively transfers the fears and frustrations of its characters onto the audience.

Mr Sehgal knows that Indians, particularly, the Indian man, has a hard time understanding Indian women the moment the latter do not fit into the feudal expectations set upon them. Screenwriter Ritesh Shah and director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury know that as well. Hence, they have made a film which drives home the point with OTT sound and fury, just the way Mr Sehgal likes to conduct business; break open the Indian skull with a sledgehammer and drill into it basic concepts of human dignity, respect and honour because achchhe din is a long time coming for women in India. And while doing such social service, Pink, like Mr Sehgal, is never for a second, boring.

At the cost of sticking his neck out, mid-day critic Mayank Shekhar feels that ‘Pink’ is even more impactful and powerful than Rajkumar Santoshis ‘Damini’. He feels ‘Pink’ does compel one to think. And thats not all it does And whys that? Quite simply, because the terrible incident described in this film could happen to absolutely anyone of us, or our loved ones.
