Overall, Raya and the Last Dragon is a complete package with something for everyone. Its a spirited fantasy adventure for the children, an inspiring young warrior princess, who defines women empowerment and a universally binding emotional fabric.

All said and done, following a similar formula of keeping something for everything, this is not an only kids film. It speaks about heartbreaks, it always about trust, it says about the messy world but adding an almost perfect amount of Disneys magic to it. Dont miss it! Three and a half stars!

The five lands of Kumandra €” Fang, Spine, Talon, Tail, and Heart €” are coloured with the arts, myths and cultures of various Southeast Asian countries. But it’s a love letter to the region more interested in summarising them through a Hollywood lens, rather than depicting an authentic version of any one country. What makes its usual Disney cocktail of moral messaging and magic refreshing is the studio finally embracing representation beyond Western fairy tales and Chinese folklore. What is even more refreshing is an original animated film which isn’t another sequel or a live-action update to a past classic.

Call it an act of repentance on Disneys part for throwing Kelly Marie Tran under the bus, or call it another excuse for Alan Tudyk to make animal noises for a couple of hours in exchange of equity, but nothing should take away from the fact that Raya and the Last Dragon is another step in the right direction for the Mouse House. And in a happy coincidence, it might just be the most unremakable film that the studio has produced in a while.

This film has everything we love and expect from a Disney film. The animation is the best to date, the characters are well fleshed out, the fight scenes are jaw-dropping, and the film overall feels like a tightly packed bag of goodies that is sure to surprise you with something new every time you dip into it. Though the experiment at diversity is not as satisfying as in previous attempts like Moana or Coco, Disney pulls another magic trick with Raya and the Last Dragon that is sure to entertain both the child seated next to you and the one inside you.
