RED 2 MOVIE REVIEW

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times Of India (TOI)

The idea of retired CIA operatives (read: killers) being pressed back into service in the face of mortal danger isn’t new. In this case, the fun lies in the execution. There are some tantalizing twists and turns that keep you looking forward to what happens next. Willis does his action-comedy routine adroitly. With nicely-timed sequences stitched together and gags galore, the humour in the film positively crackles! Or, as Bailey often says, “Jolly good!” Note: You may not like this film if fast-paced action films are not what you enjoy.

The plot intermittently spluttered with action and humour is either tediously or incompetently staged. There are no risks or dangers to any of the truly terrifying situations. The menacing situations are resolved by demure settled one-liners and the film’s escalation to what should be a pretty significant event, a nuclear explosion, is at best, dismissively handled. Overall, ‘Red 2’ is a big letdown, as very little occurs from the first act to the third that is completely unexpected.

The ensemble reminds us of the Expendables, only this one is more fashionable and feisty. It isn’t that the film isn’t funny, some scenes and lines will have you in splits, but the cohesiveness is missing. Also making the older actors do crazy stuff and pull off those mind boggling stunts was a formula milked dry in the prequel. This time around the same exercise seems futile. If you enjoyed the first part, and wished it had larger than life action scenes, then Red 2 is your ticket this weekend.
