The last installment in the billion dollar Resident Evil franchise, among one of the more successful game-to-movie adaptations, even though all movies have the same basic plot — kill the zombies, survive the apocalypse, defeat the boss and escape with enough story to make a sequel. With Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, literally being the final chapter (though they leave it open-ended), does it deliver the goods to be the fitting finale to its 15 years long on screen journey? Not really, but it does come close. Its climax though, unravels so cleanly, that the build-up seems like a waste. However, at the end they leave enough of a story that you wonder whether the next movie in the franchise is a reboot or a sequel.

However, in order to cash in the popularity, the makers stretched it beyond repair and now let’s hope this truly is the end of boring, juice-less and bland film-series. Although, the makers have left the film at a point, leaving hopes for further expansion (oh no!) It is time for everyone involved with the franchise to really, truly and absolutely call it a day and let Alice go. The final chapter offers a powerless punch to a dried out series, ironically, much to everybody’s relief.

However, its doubtful how many of the film series persistent fans will continue to believe that. There is little in The Final Chapter in terms of characters bar Alice, there is little in terms of novelty particularly in the zombies, there is little in terms of a story as Alice battles Umbrella one zombie at a time, there is little in terms of ideas as old sequences are resurrected, and there is little in terms of a conversation when not more than two sentences are strung other.

To call it a slight improvement on its predecessors is similar to declaring that you would rather have your pinkie bitten off by an infected zombie instead of your index finger, simply because it is shorter. Theyre both going to hurt. Dont stick your hand down the zombies mouth.
