Hitman : Agent 47 is the second film born from the computer game franchise, and is also the directorial debut of Aleksander Bach (previously having worked in music videos).

Many years ago, Doctor Litvenko worked on a  programme creating humans without fear or remorse that would become perfect killing machines.  Once the programme began to be successful, Litvenko vanished and the killers (or ‘Agents’) went ‘off radar’.

Since then there has been huge efforts to find Litvenko as he is the key to any successful attempt to relaunch the programme.

We follow his daughter Katia (Hannah Ware from ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Shame’) who has been trying to locate her father. In a moment reminiscent of the ‘Come with me if you want to live’ from Terminator, she meets John Smith (Zachary Quinto) who explains that a hitman is about to attempt to kill her. Seconds later, Agent 47 (Rupert Friend) arrives and one of many, many shoot outs through the film begin.

The plot continues into a attempts to find Litvenko with Katia and 47 teaming up to try and find Litvenko first and preventing the evil ‘Syndicate International’ finding him first and trying to restart the Agent programme.

Films from computer games have traditionally been a difficult thing to get right. This film most certainly fails to do that. It lacks any real character and logic to it and is not too much more than a linked set of not wildly exciting action scenes.

There are moments that are reminiscent of the game’s moments (speed the character will change outfits / moments emerging from shadows) but with one foot in the games and one foot in a bad action film, this is one to avoid.
