REVOLVER RANI comes across as a distant cousin of BULLETT RAJA and GANGS OF WASSEYPUR. Director Sai Kabir attempts to amalgamate a love story with hi-octane drama, political maneuvers and rustic action and also coats it with the local flavor to make it seem authentic and bona fide, but something’s amiss. After a fairly engrossing first hour, the post-interval portions slide downwards. On the whole, REVOLVER RANI has engaging moments, but they are few and far between. This being Kangna’s immediate film release after the remarkable success of QUEEN may benefit the film to an extent.

Revolver Rani establishes Kangana Ranaut as the most fearless actress in Bollywood. After winning our hearts as the achingly na¯ve dumped bride in Queen, she does a 360-degree flip in this film. As the psychotic, murderous, s**ually ravenous dacoit turned politician Alka Singh, she is frankly ugly, literally and figuratively. Some of this works and some of it doesnt. But what keeps Revolver Rani together are the performances and the sly humour. If you like uplifting, cheerful cinema, then this isnt the movie for you. But if, like me, you can enjoy bad people doing bad things, then Revolver Rani will be fun.

While some portions are interesting and entertaining, there are also some parts which are boring and appear stretched. On the whole, Revolver Rani is entertaining in parts but lack of hit and popular music and the unexplained conflict of the second half will tell on its business. Connoisseurs of different cinema will like the film but that will not be enough to recover the cost, given the films dull opening.

Revolver Rani is perfect on paper but if it really wanted to generate that spark, it should have probably taken the character-centric route. Somewhere along the way, the story disappears and so does the editor, or so it seems.A lot of Revolver Rani seems to have come from inspiration that was obviously drawn from Quentin Tarantino films.Even the animated bits seem to be borrowed from Kill Bill Vol 1. This does end up spoiling the novelty factor. Revolver Rani could have been the film of the year. It is sad that all is chose to be was confused in the end.

Revolver Rani, for all its retro style and ingredients, is certainly not that ancient in spirit and substance. But it does draw heavily from old Hindi movie traditions while completely demolishing the dependence of the political thriller on conventional machismo.Mercifully, Revolver Rani is not a case of an overreaching writer-director biting off more than he can chew. The screenplay stays on course even when the drama teeters on the edge of the outrageously bizarre. Revolver Rani may lack star power, but it has no dearth of firepower.

Sai Kabir’s skill lies in his satirical story-telling and style, not so much the plot. The crux is simple – power, politics and revenge. It’s a combo of cool and crass – the kind of stuff pulp fiction is made of. Often textured in Quentin Tarantino style, he sets the mood with a notorious mix of quirkiness, violence and an eclectic background score. The second half is stretched, the songs interrupting the pace. Some dark, humorous moments (even the background score) are quite inspired by ‘Kill Bill’. ‘Revolver Rani’ is loaded with a lot more than just gunpower. You’ll enjoy biting this bullet.

This Rani, who hefts revolvers and shoots to kill, is neither wholly a cartoon figure, nor completely credible. This confusion makes us stop suspending disbelief, and Revolver Rani becomes a tiresome Bollywoodesque trudge through the Chambal, and its men and one woman posturing with guns, and the standard corrupt netas and complicit cops. This Chambal ki Rani is not for Kangana Ranaut. Rajouri wins hands down.

Tighter editing is what the movie lacks. At some points the scenes actually drag, and one kind of wishes that the cast would just get on with the final act. The movie seems to be an attempt to set up Tarantinos world in Bollywood, which may lead to it finding limited takers. Kangana delivers her acting chops, but this Rani may not be able to score over the Rani of Queen.

It is impressive how the director represent her pain, trauma and the ecstasy on finding her new love. While Kangana’s desi accent, dark humor, background score work in favour of the film, its over-stretched sequences to get the point across should have been avoided. All in all, ‘Revolver Rani’ is Kangana Ranaut’s film.

The film starts with much promise, with a kind of quirkiness and black humour that fits well with the subject in hand. The narration and the background music work in absolute tandem to bring us a satire that succeeds in making you chuckle more often than not. But unfortunately, some scenes are so long drawn out that the whole impact begins to fizzle out by the end of it.Watch it for Kangana Ranaut and the music.

Sai Kabirs movie Revolver Rani wobbles trying to balance Bollywood sensibilities with a racy Quentin Tarantino-styled plot. Revolver Rani is about the dirty politics, the Bollywood dreams, and the earning for a life uncompromised and loved. While its got many extraordinary characters, some incredibly wicked lines and a few well-written power-packed sequences, Sais unable to piece them together to make it work as a whole.Although Kangana makes Revolver Rani work on so many levels, the movie doesnt do her justice. We honestly wish it had.

Revolver Rani is a commendably tantalizing attempt for Bollywood. Kanganas calling it shots (quite literally) paired with her wicked conniving smile is tempting. The narrative in its illustrious moments lures us into its absorbing premises before turning languid. Though the product was made with a more competent vision in mind, the execution wasnt tempered correctly which makes the film fall a few notches. For the mettlesome imagination, Revolver Rani makes for a gripping watch.
