Rise of the Guardians has been described as a sort of childrens equivalent of The Avengers, what with its similar premise of mythical heroes coming together to defend the world against a dastardly villain. But despite the beautifully rendered animation and some impressive voice work, the film feels bloated from packing in too many things at once, and simply doesnt offer compelling enough characters to make the journey with.Rise of the Guardians is stunningly animated, but the storyline feels convoluted and eventually feeble, despite the frantically-paced action. Some moments are sheer genius, but its never consistently engaging.Im going with two-and-a-half out of five for Rise of the Guardians. Youll enjoy it in portions; in some parts youll struggle to stay awake.

The film revolves around the tale of Jack Frost too and, in a way, we all identify with it. His back-story is heartrending. There lies the beauty of the film. It’s not just feel-good but heartwarmingly meaningful. The film has a message but is not preachy, showing how we should never stop believing in good, no matter what the odds. The film will appeal to all age groups. The 3D is flawless and adds to the beauty of the film. Voice-overs are impeccable. Rise of the Guardians is a must-watch for the entire family. Note: You will not like the film if you do not believe in Santa Claus!

Though the film may be action packed and amusing for kids, it lacks the sly wink-wink humour of Shrek and nuances in storytelling that keep adults hooked as well. The story of the misfit with a murky past who must prove himself isnt an entirely new one. The clash of personalities in the colourful outfit and inevitable maturing of the character after the trial of fire duly follow.However, definitely not a lump of coal in your stocking, Rise of the Guardians is one of Dreamworks most visually striking films.
