RUSH ENGLISH MOVIE REVIEW

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site: Masand’s Verdict (CNN IBN: IBNLive)

I wouldn’t call myself a Formula One enthusiast, yet I thoroughly enjoyed Ron Howard’s Rush, a compelling drama based on the real-life rivalry between racing legends James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Crisply edited, competently acted, and tightly directed by Howard, Rush is an exhilarating ride, but also a simple, old-fashioned tale about rivalry and ambition. I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five. It’s consistently engaging. Don’t miss it.

The script by Peter Morgan delivers drama, complexity, suspense and thrills the racing sequences, in which we see the race from the point of view of the drivers, are staggering. By the time, we got to the climactic, rain-soaked race in Japan, I was holding my breath. Both Hemsworth and Br¼hl are very good and Hans Zimmers score only adds to the spectacle. Rush is gripping and deeply satisfying. Im going with four stars and recommending that you see it.

Ron Howard doesn’t succumb to either. His splendid execution strikes the right balance to give us a film that is visually stunning, moving, nail-bitingly intense and heroically entertaining, just like a Formula One Grand Prix. If you are a F1 fan, you must know that Rush starts from the pole position, maintains its momentum and makes it to the chequered flag for a grand podium finish. Long after it’s over, you don’t think about death, danger, victory or rivalry. You remember two champions who didn’t race for a living but lived because they loved racing. Note: You may not like the film if motor-racing is not your cup of tea.

Rush is a film about a racing season — and two seasoned racers — so damned thrilling that it would compel the most stubborn Formula One hater, those people who insist mastering technology isnt a sporting enough achievement and forget every other part of the invariably human equation. For the Formula One fan, this is a film worthy of a magnum of Mumms finest champagne — if only for the chance to hear those massive V12 engines explode across the big screen. VrrrRRRRRRooom.

“To be a champion, it`s more than just being quick. It is understanding and delivering the whole picture”. This is the key message conveyed in director Roh Howard`s “Rush”, which is based on a true story. Overall, “Rush” is an engaging biopic with intense performances that will thrill you even if you are not an F1 buff.
