On the whole, Savi is a well-made thriller but lack of promotion and face value will come in the way of realisation of its full box-office potential.

The logic of the basic premise of Savi is not beyond question, even if one were to accept that it isn’t entirely dubious. With the two lead actors left to do everything that they can to hold the film together, it flounders frequently. To make up for the overwhelming glumness that the troubled heroine transmits, Anil Kapoor’s smirking, smooth-talking character is given the responsibility of inject some humour into the film.

‘Savi’ had a great opportunity to elevate this genre, but despite best efforts, it falls short. The actual jailbreak sequence is more ‘tricky’ than ‘daring,’ lacking the expected adrenaline rush. Anil Kapoor’s witty dialogues inject the right amount of humour into the thriller. While ‘Savi’ makes an honest attempt to offer something new in this genre, it ultimately fails to reach the finish line.

Mr and Mrs Mahi is supposed to be about the “imperfectly perfect partnership” between Rao and Kapoor’s characters. However, it falls short of perfect. The film suffers from serious pacing issues and only picks up when it’s almost too late. Makers should consider themselves lucky if the audiences fight their yawns till then. Fortunately for them, it is the soundtrack that keeps pulling their eyes to the screen after dull moments. A few chuckle-evoking jokes here and there add some warmth to this flawed film, but overall, Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s sixes lack impact.

Savi: A Bloody Housewife will perhaps start a new chapter for Divya Khossla, the actor. Though predictable, it definitely deserves a watch for its fresh treatment and sincere attempt at being a clutter-breaker.

Of course, this is nowhere close to the success of the other names, it’s commendable filmmakers aren’t peeping into the West for inspiration but turning back to our own unforgettable stories. Only for that, Savi gets little more points. Only if the filmmaking was a little more savvy

On the flipside, the first half is weak and the interest dips at this point. The intermission point also comes at a not-so-exciting juncture. There are too many cinematic liberties; the manner in which Savi is able to get her husband out is very convenient. The same goes for the whole button angle. Also, the promos give a slightly misleading idea about Savi’s actual plan to save her husband. On the whole, SAVI works due to the plot, performances and an engaging second half however the cinematic liberties play spoilsport. At the box office, it will be an average fare.

Savi is an entertaining watch if you like thrillers, despite its close pace. The chemistry between Divya Khossla and Harshvardhan Rane is refreshing and so is her never-seen-before avatar on the silver screen.
