An isolated house, stormy nights and a lonely existence€¦ director Farren Blackburns psychological thriller has all the ingredients that are bound to spook you. Sadly, even a competent actor like Naomi Watts, fails to keep this sinking ship afloat, thanks to its done to death, wafer-thin plot. To cut to the chase, Shut In is like one of those forgettable low-budget slasher films that fail to make an impression. Barring Naomi Watts fearless presence, there is almost nothing that stands out or sends shivers down your spine. Charlie Heaton is decent but Jacob Tremblay is terribly wasted. You walk into this film, hoping to feel claustrophobic but walk out trying to shake off boredom.

This empty-headed thriller is tedious from the word go.Amid scare-free nightmares and silly dialogue, you get a supposedly shocking twist that could be seen coming from miles away. Director Farren Blackburn, a veteran of British television, deliberately paces the films first hour so that very little of consequence happens, only to unconvincingly rush things in the last 30 minutes.

Teenage sons, distraught mothers, clinical psychologists, and Naomi Watts have rarely had it so bad. There is so much potential here, but its incomprehensible the direction the film eventually decides to take. And persist with, even when Marys clinical capabilities are put into serious question by how many clues she missed.
