Video game’s “fastest thing alive” gets its own live-action treatment as Paramount Pictures (and SEGA) release the official trailer for the upcoming film Sonic the Hedgehog. View trailer below.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Hmmmm…..I don’t know. Of course, much like a lot of generation….I grew up in the 90s and loved playing on my SEGA Genesis console system, with the Sonic games some of my personal favorite (always been a fan of Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles). Additionally, I loved the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon (the Saturday Morning version, not the other one). The Sonic franchise took a radical change afterwards (both in video games and its lore), but the original iteration of Sonic is the stuff of my childhood. As for the trailer for the new movie….I’m not quite sure about it. There’s just something about this movie that doesn’t look right and seems a bit underwhelming. Plus, I’m not quite sold on how Sonic looks (there’s just some stuff that live-action / CGI hybrid endeavors can’t match from its original source material). However, I do like how Jim Carrey looks as Robotnik. In the end, I’m leery about this movie and my expectations for this film to be good are quite low. We’ll just have to see if Sonic races to the box office or hits a brick wall……
