SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT tells the heartwarming story of a pastor’s wonderful family that feels the call of God to foster some children and inspires an entire town. SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT is a beautiful Christian story about taking care of children, but caution is advised for children because some of the children have suffered through some terrible things.

Donna Martin loves her family. She has a son who’s autistic and a daughter who’s in middle school. Her husband is the pastor of a rural black church in Possum Trot, Texas. The charismatic church is packed every weekend with people trying to make ends meet. When Donna’s mother passes away unexpectedly, her life is turned upside down.

Donna must learn how to get through the grief and depression of losing her mother. One of the last things her mother asked was if Donna would have more children. At the time, Donna said she had her hands full with the two children she had. Donna asks God to take away her depression and grief and begins to feel relief.

One day, however, Donna feels she hears from God that she should take in children less fortunate and in the foster system. When she and her friend go to the meeting about the foster children’s needs, she meets Susan, who heads up the program. Donna connects with Susan and also feels the call to take in these children. However, she must get her husband on board with this as well. It’s not long, though, before the Reverend Martin agrees to take in some foster children.

When the Martins receive their first two children, they see that the children have trauma from their past. Pastor Martin sees that this calling is so important and starts to preach about taking in foster children. The entire church decides to come to an informational meeting that Susan will give. Susan learns that these families may not have much financially, but they have a lot of love to give. Each and every family in the church decides to take in a child in the foster system.

There’s one teenage girl named Terri, however, who’s having a hard time being placed in a home. Terri has jumped from home to home all her life. Donna tells Susan she’ll take in Terri, even though Terri is known to be very difficult because of all the hardships she’s endured. The question is, will the Martins be able to help Terri and show her the love that she has always needed? Or, will Terri run away and never overcome her issues and her pain?

SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT is a beautiful story about how a Christian community takes in children from the foster system. The movie is very well acted. Also, the dialogue is very realistic. SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT will touch viewers’ hearts and inspire them.

SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT has a strong Christian, biblical, morally uplifting worldview. It does have some mature themes, however. For example, the story implies that a young girl has been raped and abused by an older man. The movie also shows a drug dealer killing a mother for not paying drug money. Finally, a teenage girl tries to have boys notice her and is willing to do things with the boys. She realizes, however, that she’s broken, and there is a beautiful moment of conversion.

Ultimately, therefore, SOUND OF HOPE shows that God’s love is real and that, no matter what your past is, God will always be with you.
