Speaking of which M. Night Shyamalan has suffered from an odd predicament; peaking early in his career with landmark films like The Sixth Sense, & Unbreakable, then fumbling the proverbial ball with entries like The Village. Its commendable then, that the writer director takes a calculated risk with Split, that pays off largely due to memorable performances inspired by a gripping, original story penned by himself that, surprisingly has a lot more to offer beyond this outing. If Shyamalan continues to bring his A-game to the big screen, hes more than welcome to jump on the franchise bandwagon.

Without giving away the details, the ending of the film is like a character in itself. The consequences of what happens before the frame cuts to black are tremendous and youll be left with the feeling that you got a lot more than you expected. However you interpret the ending, it bodes well for whatever Shyamalan is doing next. There are already tons of discussions on the finale on forums, so jump right in after you see the film.

After almost a dozen films with a dozen twist endings, Shyamalan has done something incredible with this one. Its his best one since his best one, The Sixth Sense and it isnt even a twist ending in the traditional sense. At this point, understandably, were all expecting a Shyamalan movie to end with a surprise, so now, the challenge is not to merely deliver on those expectations but to subvert them. It is a challenge that only he could have overcome.
