Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is a very unusual film. It marries elements of horror, broad comedy, dark humor, and social satire to create a cocktail that believe it or not mostly crackles. I say mostly because the film isnt perfect. But then what film is? These problems aside, Stree is especially entertaining, packed with laugh aloud moments and a cast thats on top of their game. Its one of the most original films this year, and I recommend that you make the time for it.Im going with three-and-a-half out of five.

Director Amar Kaushik and writers Krishna D.K. and Raj Nidimoru create a horror-comedy, which turns out to be subversive commentary on the position and treatment of women in India. Its clever and very funny.Kaushik takes their smart script and runs with it. He seamlessly blends horror tropes the point of view shot, jump scares, the end twist with droll humor. The dialogue by Sumit Arora is consistently first-rate.With laughs and scares, Stree delivers an important message.

Raj and DKs story, with additional story by Pawan Sony, is fantastical as it defies logic and is based on a ridiculous premise. But it is written so well that it manages to capture the imagination of the viewers. The writers have penned a wonderfully entertaining story which evokes a lot of laughter in the comic scenes and sends chills down the spines of the viewers in the horror scenes. On the whole, Stree is entertaining and engaging. Its comedy and horror will be lapped up by the audience, making it a hit fare.

Stree, Amar Kaushik’s self-assured first feature, delivers shocks and laughs in equal measure. Despite its repeated to-ing and fro-ing between conflicting tones, the horror comedy glides along a firm and steady arc Stree plays an unwavering hand in demonstrating that dread can be unbridled fun when it serves a larger thematic purpose. Go watch this spine-tingling film. It is completely madcap but there is method in its manic madness.

It is fully appropriate that these toxic notions are sent up in a horror-comedy, written by Raj and DK. Strees premise is a cracker, leaving you grinning in the dark. But the execution comes off a tad clunky: subversion in a film willing to embrace its silliness can be very effective, but it can get diluted if your messaging is mixed.

Despite all its flaws and ambiguous ideas, Stree is still an entertaining film. This is an experimental comedy, that creates an eerie atmosphere and it manages to be funny and scary at the same time. Writers Raj and DK (who have directed films like Go Goa Gone, 99 and Shor In The City) bring in their trademark humour. The film has its absurdities, it also has its moments but the final act lets it down.

Stree certainly deserves a watch for its funny content and the concept that will keep haunting you for long. By the end of it you might also figure out as to what is it that women actually want. Also, whats more delightful than watching good actors on screen!

On the whole, STREE is a unique concoction of humour and horror that floors you completely. At the box office, this entertainer surely has a chance to tickle the audiences funny bone, send a chill down their spine and ultimately give them a roller coaster experience. Impressive!

Combining humour and horror is a risky gamble, but director Amar Kaushik manages to pleasantly juxtapose the two disparate genres in his debut film Stree. Its a horror comedy thats absurdly amusing to watch despite its ghoulish undertones. Stree was a creative experiment and it worked for most parts. Had 10 minutes been shaved off, the horror comedy would have been brisker. But that shouldnt be a deal-breaker. Its perfect for a one-time watch.

Stree is a weak story told with ample humour and wit. It’s a rather bold attempt to mix two contrasting genres horror with comedy. But in this case, humour dilutes the eerie quotient of the film and strips it of the gravity and seriousness it demands. Hence, Stree resorts to the usual horror tricks; over-the-shoulder shots, hand held camera, blaring background score and distorted faces and figures sneaking up on you only at night. It gets so repetitive that it exhausts you beyond a point.Overall, Stree is boring, slow and stretched. But a few fun jokes and the overall light-hearted treatment makes it a bearable watch.

The film is in the horror comedy genre like ‘Go Goa Gone’ (by the same producer) but sadly doesn’t do justice to either genre — horror or comedy. It is just a ridiculously long film that could have been short by 10-15 minutes. With no coherent screenplay, skilled actors like Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi can’t do much to salvage the film. Maybe they should choose better for their fans. At just over two hours, ‘Stree’ is a tedious watch that makes you yearn for the exit for most of its screen time.
