TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MOVIE REVIEW

Ratings:1.5/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site: CNN IBN

Predictably, there are lots of big 3D explosions and relentless chase sequences. And given that the film is produced by Michael Bay, the editing in the action scenes is so typically frenetic, you can barely tell who is doing what and to whom. Bland, unimaginative, and entirely pointless, this is one film that needn’t have been made. I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Stay home and take a nap instead.

Michael Bay has a producer co-credit in this reboot, which might explain the loud, frenetic action, bombast and ample camera time devoted to close shots of Fox’s posterior. The turtle bonhomie has been suitably updated in keeping with the times – ‘bro’ is now ‘brah’ and they don’t say ‘yo’ anymore. Thin plot aside, *TMNT* is peppered with just enough humour and maintains a strident pace throughout.

The plot remains consistent, too consistent, because there are absolutely no twists in it! You could watch this film with closed eyes and plugged ears and still wake up, five minutes before the end, and still know what had happened in the last 96 minutes. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles does have some rather enjoyable action sequences and cheesy, yet funny one-liners though.

The original films arent very good on a filmmaking level, but whatever was on screen had never been done before then. Everything about this film reeks of €œbeen there done that€. If Bays master plan is to nurture todays teens on this sort of mediocre codswallop, we need to hijack satellite channels and telecast the video of Vanilla Ices Ninja Rap on every screen and save this generation of kids.

The Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Turtles! If you are someone who grew up watching the reptilian brothers in cartoons, movies or otherwise, then you are sure to enjoy this film. Agreed, there is not much originality to the plot and at times, the film feels rushed, but the turtles ground this movie and give it more soul. Despite clich©d scenes and below-par acting by a few of the characters, this movie deserves a watch. If only the makers had put a little more effort in the story, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would have been the perfect blockbuster.
