One of the most powerful biopics to release on the #Hindi screen€¦ Loads of drama + strong emotions + bravura performances [#KanganaRanaut and #ArvindSwami pitch in award-worthy acts] are major aces.

On the whole, Thalaivii is an entertaining human drama which will be loved by the classes and the families but not as much by the masses. Unfortunately, its business will not at all be commensurate with its merits because the three biggest national multiplex chains (PVR, Inox and Cinepolis) have refused to screen the film (as it will be premiered digitally after two weeks of its theatrical release instead of four weeks desired by the said multiplex chains).

All said and done, Thalaivii has a lot of good things going in its favour but it remains half-baked only for the reason of what it couldve been?. Want to watch Kangana Ranauts good acting? Watch this. Want to watch Kangana Ranauts good acting backed by a good story? Watch Queen!

Thailaivii pays a resounding ode to Jaya-MGRs poignant love story, a relationship without labels. The political aspect feels talky, half baked and one-sided. What eventually stays with you is the story of a woman who defied the odds and wrote her own destiny.

With the screenplay all over the place – it is especially so when the spotlight isn’t on the principal star and is visibly itching to return to its focal point – Thalaivi flounders. Kangana Ranaut is, as always, as earnest as a new recruit going to war, but is let down by the length of the film and the leaden-footed nature of the storytelling. The meandering plot fails to deliver insights that could help the audience truly understand Jayalalithaa’s mind. As a result, we leave the hall none the wiser.

The only problem with Thalaivii is its length. The story as celebratory as Jayalalithaas deserves a tighter climax and more about her family. The actors bonding with her mother (played by Bhagyashree) seems patchy as if there was more that could have been fetched out from there. The same happens with MGR and his wife Jankis (played by Madhu) relationship. You are never told how she dealt with the constant gossips, news items, and rumours around her husbands relationship with another woman, and how she still remained devoted to him despite all of that. The entertainment though never takes a backseat. Thalaivii is a win-win for both Kangana and the audience!

On the whole, THALAIVII is a well-made and well-written political saga that is embellished with yet another award-winning performance by Kangana Ranaut. However, the poor buzz and prolonged closure of theatres in Maharashtra will affect the box office prospects of the Hindi version to a great extent.
