Thank You For Coming €” we get where youre going with this, haha €” appears to be a direct response to that line Why Should Boys Have All The Fun. Why shouldnt girls? Why indeed. This Ekta Kapoor-Rhea Kapoor outing is a spry, smart, heartfelt slap in the face of the zillions of movies that privilege boys and their putrid toys. It focusses on its girls, and lets them be silly and giddy and themselves, and it works, almost all the way.

That is where the rub lies Thank You for Coming is so screechy and loud that the actors have to not only outtalk each other but also, at times, shout each other down. If there is a takeaway from this film, it is this: talk is cheap, insight is not. There is plenty of the former in Thank You for Coming, little of the latter.

In short, Thank You For Coming is a good attempt but it doesnt pan out well. When you have two women backing a film and two female writers putting a script together, you would anticipate a more well-thought-out and less shallow portrayal of women. Yes, we do talk about men and pleasure. But theres more to our lives. Men are just a small part of it. Sure, films dont bear the responsibility of being the flag-bearer of morality. Women most definitely are flawed too. But hey, we arent frivolous. Thank You For Coming doesnt quite hit the spot and take that from a single millennial woman.
