On the whole, Top Gun: Maverick is an entertaining film but its singular track is a dampener. Its box-office will not match its merits because of the single-track story and also because the awareness about the film among the Hindi film-going audience is low.

in a superhero dominated movie phase, Tom Cruise, 59, dares to bring old school heroism back in a worthy sequel thats high on redemption and thrill. While he retains the oomph of the original, the franchise ages gracefully as wisdom and consequences of death challenge the carefree courage of youth. A one-man show, Cruise ensures the attention is on him and him alone, the film has just the right amount of nostalgia, drama and action to make it worthy of theatrical viewing. Go for it!

In Top Gun – Maverick, Tom Cruise takes us back to the simpler times when he could make the sporting of aviator sunglasses feel like a cultural breakthrough and hopping into a cockpit look like an act meant to separate the men from the boys. Watch the film for its past. It is loaded with nods to the original Top Gun.

Raimi and his writers ensure the plot is well paced out and give ample scope for it to be immersed in colourful special effects and elaborate set designs. Director Sam Raimi works his magic by giving the audience an entertaining multiverse saga by packaging it smartly with the elements that he believes can cast a spell on them, irrespective of their love for the MCU.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is not your quintessential Marvel movie. While it would come as a treat for fans who were waiting for Sam Raimi to return and try his hand in the new world of MCU, it might not be as appealing for those who are fans of the old MCU style. Elizabeth and Benedict surrender to Sam Raimis vision and shine. They are the reasons the movie makes it worth a watch.

Ultimately, Top Gun: Maverick does what many Hollywood sequels are unable to — take the prequel as a foundation, and build upon it something so beautiful, so amazing, that it can scarcely be considered a mere sequel.

Of course the film is riding on Cruises still nimble shoulders, that sparkly grin, and his charm burnished with years of stardom. However, there is a settling down too, a recognition of age, of passing years whether it is Pete wistfully looking on at the new top guns, including a woman pilot accepted as one of the boys, at a bar; or him choosing to take a seat half-way through a volleyball game, to take a breath and look lovingly on.

So if you ever liked Tom Cruise and perhaps still like him, Top Gun: Maverick will work for you. Because the whole film has Cruise saying, ‘Look at me. I am still the biggest star like I was in the 1980s and 1990s.’But if you belong to a generation that do not know or care about who Tom Cruise is, or rather was, once upon a time, the new film will perhaps not work for you.
