On the whole, WW84 is an entertaining fare and will do decent business in multiplexes as well as single-screen cinemas. Of course, business is bound to be adversely affected owing to peoples hesitation in visiting cinemas because of the coronavirus fear.

Overall, WW84 is a clean and wholesome mass entertainer that dutifully ticks all the boxes. From action and adventure to drama and emotions, its all here to pull the audience back to the big screen.

In a year in which moviegoers have been starved of big screen entertainment, Wonder Woman 1984, out in the Indian multiplexes on Christmas-eve, delivers bushels of it. Not all of it holds water, but why complain when Gal Gadot shoulders her part of the deal with all the flair at her command. She pushes WW84 above the passable mark.

Wonder Woman 1984 is riddled with issues, but barring its off-kilter final battle, its also one of the most visually and emotionally coherent Hollywood blockbusters in recent years. That may not sound like much, just a year removed from seemingly incomplete studio films like Cats and The Rise of Skywalker, but the film harkens back (aesthetically and tonally) to a time when superhero movies still felt special, and werent bogged down with setting up a dozen different spin-offs in lieu of a satisfying ending. It achieves this not only through action, but through a strong emotional core; eventually,

Three years ago, director Jenkins and actor Gadot established a winsome Wonder Woman who warmed hearts as much as she torched the bad guys. Gorgeous as she was, Diana Prince was also vulnerable, who loved and lost. Wonder Woman 1984 (there seems no real reason to go to 1984 except that it brings in €œthe Soviet Union€) doesnt have the freshness of an origin story. But sadly, it doesnt have the heft of a sequel to a successful hit either.

On the whole, WONDER WOMAN 1984 is a complete entertainer that is sure to give you your moneys worth. It is treated in a commercial manner and hence, has a lot of mass appeal. At the box office, it faces several roadblocks like the scare of certain moviegoers over going to cinemas, night curfew in the state of Maharashtra and the fear of the spread of the HD pirated prints once its out on HBO Max on Friday December 25. On the plus side, the film has tremendous hype and moreover, theres a lot of pent up demand among audiences. It releases in the beneficial Christmas weekend sans any competition. Also, WONDER WOMAN series and Gal Gadot have a following in India and hence, its box office outcome can be very healthy.

All said and done, I somewhere read about Patty Jenkins praising the climax of the film, referring it to a magical fusion of superheroes power and humanity, and Im totally with her on it. Gal Gadots speech in the climax says a lot more than we can understand at the moment. More than understanding the message, its the timing its being delivered at. We need positivity, and thats what the climax offers.
