WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP is a family comedy on Netflix where Woody the Woodpecker is banished from his forest home to learn about teamwork and finds a sad sack summer camp, where he makes a mess of things until he finally finds a way to help the clumsy children learn to work together. WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP meanders a little bit until Woody and the children learn unique ways to overcome their obstacles, including some lessons about helping one another, sacrifice and sticking together as a family.
The movie begins with Woody getting upset at a social media star who invades his forest with his entourage and makes a lot of noise. Woody wrecks the whole camp and causes some pain to the social media star, who falls onto a hot barbecue grill face first at one point.
Ranger Walter admonishes Woody for causing so much mayhem. He tells Woody that all the forest animals have taken a vote, and they’ve decide to banish Woody until he learns how to work with others.
Sadly, Woody leaves his forest home but soon runs across a sign for a summer camp called Camp Woo Hoo. The sign says the camp of “Dedicated to Teamwork. So, Woody decides to try the camp.
However, the camp is for children, not animals. No, problem for Woody! He befriends the camp owner’s daughter, Maggie, who takes a liking to the little pest. Maggie informs Woody that Woo Hoo is a STEAM camp, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. “Everyone here has a special talent,” she says.
Of course, Woody causes all sorts of trouble. Just when Maggie’s mom, Angie, manages to get the camp ready for the county camp inslector, Wally Walrus, Woody starts fooling around with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher sends Woody on a wild ride causing damage to the rec room. When Inspector Wally arrives, he gives the camp 24 hours to fix everything.
Because of Woody’s penchant for disaster, Angie decides Woody shouldn’t be anywhere near the repair work. She orders him to help the children at Camp Woo Hoo prepare for the Wilderness Games, the annual competition between Woo Hoo and the rival camp next door, Camp Hoo Rah. The rival camp is run by Angie’s cousin, Zane. Zane runs his camp like a military camp, and every year, Camp Hoo Rah, beats Camp Woo Hoo like a drum in the Games.
Meanwhile, Camp Hoo Rah has a new cook, Buzz Buzzard, who’s just escaped from prison. Buzz has a secret partner on the outside. They secretly plan to get rid of both camps, starting with Camp Woo Hoo, to search for some hidden gold that one of Angie and Zane’s ancestors hid somewhere. The ancestor had two sons who fought over the father’s land. The brothers split the land between them, which is how the two camps got started.
Things come to a head when Buzz tricks Woody into destroying Camp Woo Hoo again. Inspector Wally decides to shut down Camp Woo Hoo, but Maggie and Woody talk him into letting Woo Hoo compete with Camp Hoo Rah in the Wilderness Games. If Woo Hoo wins, they can stay.
However, Woo Hoo has never beaten Camp Hoo Rah in the Games. So, the challenge may just be postponing the inevitable.
